Interesting...
Glad I haven't paid for the first hellfish's if these are comming early 2006...
I said in the crossbow thread, a crossbow type kite with the cuben fibre could be a good thing... make it bladderless, and is it strutless? and it will probably be an even better thing...

Good to see the limits being pushed...

hype springs to mind.
My initial sinical thought is best are taking the "shine" away from Cabrinha and others.....but thats just my sinicism.....
Is the hell fish obsolete now?

well hell that sounds pretty interesting. The thought of more glide after the jump really is the good stuff. Excuse me but how is it the other kite manufactures do not have access to this material. Could someone spell it out for the slow ones
Looks like 2006 should be wild lots of new stuff coming

It looks extremely similar to the crossbow......what on earth was the point in best launch ing the hellfish and then coming out with this.

Roll on when everyone sells their gear to get these "do everything you dreamed of" kites cause then I can kit myself out very cheaply with second hand gear!!!

The reason is this:
They haven't even got the Hellfish out yet,and already it is obsolete! There is great interest in the Cabrinha Crossbow, which just may make all current kites obsolete.

So to cover,Best have released a drawing of a kite that looks just like the Crossbow. Thats all it is,a drawing. In crayon,it looks like !They say it will be out in 06 !Thats a long way off !

It does not exist, yet they are trying to hype it !They even talk about the Hellfish in the past tense !
Must be pretty tough having a kite that is supposed to make everything obsolete ,then it is obsolete before it even comes out !

Here's your answer to that...

"While initial prototyping began on the flat, bladderless kite made from Cuben Fiber, the team realized that a traditionally shaped kite made from Cuben Fiber would hold significant performance advantages over all other kites made from Dacron and rip-stop and this kite could be brought to market very quickly. After extensive research yielding the conclusion that the patented Cuben material had no equal, an exclusivity agreement was signed between Best Kiteboarding and Cuben Fiber and the Hellfish was announced.Because custom Cuben Fiber made exclusively for Best is so strong, initial Hellfish prototypes were designed to achieve maximum aerodynamic efficiency through ultra-thin leading edges and struts that could hold a higher air pressure to support the shape of the kite. It astounded the R&D team to find out that the Cuben Fiber material was so structurally sound that the leading edge and struts did not need higher air pressure. The aerodynamically thin leading edge could be preserved without higher than normal pressures.

The first Hellfish prototypes were flown in early 2005, and the whole R&D team instantly knew they were on to something very, very special. The Hellfish had amazing power and wind range, but because of the unique load bearing properties of Cuben material, especially in the bias directions, it turned and responded better than anything the team had ever flown. "

The Hellfish is not obsolete as Tim Leary would have you believe...

No one else has access to the material, because Alex the guy that owns best is a very good business man, and got Cuben to sign a contract saying they wouldnt sell the material to other kite companys for x number of months, I think it was something like 3 years? Cuben probably signed it because best, and the best designers helped cuben to modify their material to suit kites down to the ground... after the 3 years is up it'll be a free for all... unless Alex can wrangle an extension to the exclusivity... and Cuben's processes, products are patented I believe, so other companys can't reproduce them...

Come on Hong Low!

How stupid do you think we are !

There is a HUGE buzz about the Crossbow.
Best have panicked and made some drawings up of a kite EXACTLY the same shape !

The Hellfish isn't even out yet,unless you count the "rev3" proto's,which don't work !
By the time they get the fish out,the Crossbows and Nova and Raptures will be everywhere.

I'm amazed that an inflatable LE can be rigid enough to maintain a flat stable kite without a bridle, battens, or even five lines.

How is it that the Nova/Crossbow/Nemi06 are so similar in shape? I understand the design concept is licensed from BrunoL. I presume Best has copied much of the design, but doesn't have to play with Bruno as they are not using a bridle?? Or perhaps the design work was done independently. Amazing how good minds think alike ;)

The propoganda reads as though Best were actually the originators of the Nova/Xbow concept with "Project12". Best must feel ripped that others have since taken on their innovation.

Bladders are pretty "stretchy" yes? More so than dacron... much more than Cuben. I'm curious as to how a 30psi non stretch inflatable strut would cope with gnarly kite stacks. Since the bladder cant be replaced, and a dacron/sailcloth patch would not hold air, I presume repair using Cuben "plastic welds” or what not will be fun.

It’s great to see the development cycles so short. It’s great if Best can be the kite Koreans. There is no shame in building on others innovations,, like LuckyGoldstar (LG). Fanststic if the product gets to market quickly. Anyrate, testing and prototyping before selling is so 2004.

Hey Bondo, please spin the propellar and sort Toby's site. I'm looking forward to the bestial angst on kiteforum.

So Steve, what are your thoughts?

I particularly like:

"The 2006 Best Nemesis simply eliminates pilot error."

I need one of these!

Tim you keep posting as though you know what your talking about...

The reference to the "rev 3" has no relevance to the final model, apart from this;

The feed back we gained from all the riders (best R & D team & Joe public rider's) that rode each revision, helped us to iron out all the wrinkles for the final model that was released two weeks ago and started shipping around the globe...

I am just saying that the prototypes are all that exists at the moment.

People tried them and they did not work.

Hi Steve,

I've got some thoughts. Just from the outside, here’s how I imagine kite companies work: they sit around a big hookah and one guy says something like, “I hear Cabrinha and Takoon are working on a bridled LEI.”
“No sh-t. How does it fly?”
“Dunno. Physics is on their side, though. Release date’s still a few months off.”
“Well what’ll we do about this super-lightweight LEI that we've spent the last six months prototyping?”
“Sell it now. Right now.”
“Dude, we can’t even get it to fly right.”
“Preorders. Lock em in.”
“And when the Cabrinha’s hit the market?”
“We’ll think up something in the meantime.”
It's a dog-eat-dog world (or a doggy-dogg world, depending on your taste in music), and I understand the logic behind this. But deep down I hope Cabrinha absolutely dominate with their kite.

That looks very interesting Steve and raises a few questions. I'll look forward to seeing those on the beaches and should give us something to talk about.

You may want to read all the way to the bottom of the press release Timmy,

"Important Note:
Flat (or elliptical) shaped kites behave and fly very differently from traditional kites. There are advantages and disadvantages to both and at the end of the day, it comes down to rider preference."

It looks like both will be sold by Best and neither is described as "better", just a different style of kite.

id rather a hellfish compared to the 06 nemi... purely cos the crossbow, nova and now the new Nemi, LOOK LIKE CRAP... i dont care how long and high i can fly on the things...
if its a diff style or kiting, then i choose this current Hellfish style... at least untill someone finds a way to make these 'spaceships' look a little bit kool...

Bestial Angst is obviously the affliction Tim Leary is suffering from. He didn't even bother to read and carefully evaluate the information provided.

Hey Brownee, well done for keeping your cool in the face of the agressive BA.

Steve- well done Best for innovation, pricing, quality and customer service. Also for being the most open & honest (other companies are furtive by comparison). Most of Best's company and product information is out in the public domain (www). The downside of this openess is vulnerability to abuse. I think both Hellfish and the new Nemi will make serious inroads.

What is it with you Best guys ??

You have the biggest chip on your shoulder !

You thought that you would be able to **** on everybody with the Hellfish, and it backfired poo all over you !

Now,you are claiming a kite that only exists as a blurry sketch,no real detail, just a whole lot of hooey!

Best were doing alright with their copied standard designs. They were proven designs. A little out of date, but for the price, excellent value.

When they tried to come up with their own design, the Hellfish, well, its all been said.It just did not work, and all they could do was offer a whole lot of excuses. Now they claim to have changed the design for the consumer kites. This does not mean they will be any better. They may be worse !!!

Timothy, what were the copied designs? If you reckon x2 and nemesis, I'll say no way - I've owned both...
Mate, you're definately upset with the whole Best thing, why not just chill and let the marketeers market and the kiters kite! Relax!

Have you even visited our website ?. Have you even read about our development since we started ?. Do you know who Peter Stiewe is ?.

In our first 6 months we contracted EH kiteboarding to design our kites. Liquid Force was doing the same. Shortly after that, Peter Stiewe, EH's head designer left an joind the best R & D team in Cabrette. All our designs are the brain children of Peter...

Now this is where I start to question your knowledge of the sport, design and comments. Are you aware pretty much of all the designers know each other ?. Are you aware they too have their own chat/forums where they bounce ideas... All these kite designs have been floating around for ages just waiting for the right fabrics to be dreamt up...
