Thanks for the link. Always suspicious when a site says "The wind in northern Brazil never stops, from April through January expect 20+ knots everyday".

Any one actually been, or know someone that has?

Gasman,

I was living in Brasil for the past 2.5 years and the kiting in Northan Brasil is awesome!

However, the best times of the year are generally later in the year - lets say between October until January. It will be possible to kite in July / August but not very reliable.

Brasil is a great place to visit and there is nothing better than kiting in boardies and a T-shirt.

I can help you with more info if you would like to give me a call on 0401322082 and I can also advise you about the do & don't in Brasil!

Cheers

Brett

P.S. chick are better than you think and the bikini's are also smaller than you think

Hi Bruce

I was in NE Brasil in October 2003. WHole coastline of Ceara province had great wind. Flew into Fortaleza then went up to Jericocoara... is more of a windsurfing town but is a kite beach about 20mins drive to the east. Small surf but nuclear winds... basically blew about 20knots from 6am and by 9-10am was up to 30 knots where it stayed rest of day. Are also some lagoons about an hours drive away where supposedly wind is lighter but the day I went out there was howling 25+ knots! So really need to take a sub 10m kite in your quiver at this time of year anyway. Ran into a few kiters who had kited many spots btw Fortaleza and Jeri so I think there is loads of opportunities all along that coast. Good luck.

Thanks for the comments.
Brett, will give you a call when i have finalised some plans. Perhaps you and malcolm could comment on beach safety, that is getting robbed? Can you leave gear in your car ...... or even leave a car? Is the area north of Forteleza attractive, or is it just wind blown?
Oh, and I know about brazilian bikinis. Can I recommend to anyone, if ever bored in Rio, just hang around a swim wear shop for half an hour.

BTW
anyone interested, Qantas has a sale on, $1800 from Sydney to Sao Paulo, not too shoddy.

Gasman,

Nice to talk to you yesterday and you are 100% correct about the Bikini's.

Beach safety was never a problem for me in Brazil but you can not leave anything on the beach. I recommend that you lock it in your car or leave it with a friend.

One possibility is to leave your keys with the local barraca (small pubs on the beaches) and they will gaurd your key as they are always looking for a nice tip or some extra business.

The whole coast can be kited in that area, Natal, Cumbuco, fortaleza up to Jericocoara but I would not go much higher than that. It could be a good idea to hire a car and do the drive up North but remember that the roads are not the best - if you are interested in this idea, lets talk some more.

In regards to flights - I always flew via South Africa with South African airways. Better flight from this side of the country and also about $2000.

Cheers

Brett
