having seen some footage from others on what looks like a go pro have given it a crack with a mate and have found that it looks much further away than anticipated, has anyone got any tips on how to film? wanting to use it also to work on technique etc.

I always shoot in 1080, wide, and 60-120 fps. I tried 720 wide at a high frame rate and that is ok. I recently tried medium and narrow and that sucks.

If you start of with high specs then when you edit you can zoom in and slow stuff down etc. If you shoot on medium or narrow then you're stuck with what you shot in the first place and usually the good bit is off the edge of the frame.

Further to Chris_M's humourous but very accurate comments, consider tagging yourself with a GPS, linking it to your drone copter (you obviously purchased this add-on at time of gopro purchase), and have Big Buzzer follow you about your daily activities. you can then spend hours of your life editing a magnificent movie, for which you will get 8000 youtube hits and for a short time imagine you are famous. just squat under an umbrella if you crup in the dunes. please.

get many angles as you can. one angle is gay and boring. get normal footage as well. don't use shaky footage, ensure the lens wont fog up. have something non moving in the shot.

for goat sake don't have a 2 min intro followed by 30 seconds of footage followed by 20mins of bollocks.

keep it short unless you are a legend. nobody wants to see more than 30 seconds of the same boring style.

Don't upload 300 videos of the same type of footage/style. mix it up with different stuff.

Lastly boost some insane jumps of some massive waves. Nobody post boosting in waves anymore and that is just wrong.
