Hi,

I will be in Cairns until Mid-December for an internship. Afterwards, I want to travel somewhere windy (until around February).
I know that Perth is very nice at this time of the year but it's also quite expensive to travel there from Cairns.
Therefore I was wondering if there are any windy alternatives that are easier/cheaper to reach from Cairns. Ideally, I'm looking for a place that has about 5 kiteable days per week.

Any suggestions?

Its Allways worth the drive to the Sunny Coast especially on a South South East wind forecast.

Caloundra has to be the best place to kite in the above winds.(sorry crew)

If the tides running out the Caloundra River mouth is world class!!

Sunshine Coast is about 1500kms from Cairns by road. As for 5 days a week that can be possible. My best at that time of year was 8 days straight. We can get a lot of rain at that time of year though - it all depends on the year. This last December was shocking. It rained for about 3 weeks straight - lots of wind though and huge swell. There are also some good flat water options in river mouths like Noosa and Maroochydore and Caloundra.

Sounds like the Sunshine Coast is not too bad. So, would you say it doesn't pay off to travel to Perth because I get similar wind on Sunshine Coast?
Is a 12m bow as the biggest kite ok? Or do I need something for light wind there?

The Noosa River Mouth and beaches are best in Dec & January. NE winds, outgoing tide make the noosa river mouth like butter, awesome spot. North of Noosa at Hervey Bay, you get some great kiting up that way, a few secret spots, call in to see us when you make it into town and we can hook you up with a few locals to do some downwinders or take a trip to a few local kiting hideaways.
