Hey guys, I might have a boat charter booked for Sept / Oct, and was wondering if anyone else had been there on a surfing/kiting trip? We will be sailing around west Java and Panaitan Island. Any information about the area or wind conditions etc?

Some mates of mine are heading there in June. I was contemplating going as well. From what ive heard it has a few good breaks but the only top notch one is One Palm. The volcano Krakatoa is nearby and apparently you can climb that for some flat day fun. With all the lava run off theres meant to be quality scuba diving exploring the caves and what not. Also heading out on a boat trip around the islands from there. Dirty cheap. $3000 for 2 weeks inlcuding the boat and flights.

Yeah, heard about the Volcano hike! Gosh dont think the boat i'm on is that cheap! They want $1300 per day! Just for the boat and food! Have you got detail of the boat your mates are on? You can PM me if you dont feel comfortable posting it online! You reckon there is any wind there?

I went that time of year a few years back. Great place. Was pretty late in the season for swell. I would of been better off with a my kite or sailboard. There are about 6 or so breaks on the island. It blew pretty strong for most of the trip. We called the trip off early as the forecast had no swell for the rest of the trip. If i was to return there for another surf trip i would prob go early season April,May or June.

yeah I have been there same time of year as well...it's getting late in the season...we got one swell at one palm that only lasted one day (the first day of the trip) then it blew the dog of the chain for the rest of the trip...it was a long time ago, pre kitesurfing so I can't say if there were any spots that looked kiteable....chance of wind is high ....I can say its a heavy wave though...don't make any mistakes...and do the krakatoa thing...it's just a big heap of soot...classic view from the top.

Hey Wilddude, I spent 6 weeks this year kiting/surfing through indo, but I am not claiming to be an expert on the area. However, from the replies from earlier guys, I am not sure if there is many that have kited West Java. I traveled from West Timor, Sumba, Java, West Java and South Sumatra. Not letting any secrets out on this forum and by the sounds of it you are too far away to buy me a heap of beer in return for my information. If you go to the Wave nationals, I will see you. There are if you are willing to look plenty of places to kite. Ben Wilson was really helpful with wind info and yes there is plenty of that stuff. Only places I saw any other kiter was at Balian (Bali) so be prepared to kite by yourself and be totally secure with your own ability as there is zero cavalry to assist if you or your gear stuffs up. Good luck. The only bit of info I will offer is, forget "Panaitan" for wave kiting.
