Hey
Is anyone else concerned about the severe lack of seabreezes in perth right now? We had an awesome 2 weeks and then frontal stuff till now. Now the 7 day outlook is looking more like winter!
What the f*ck?!
I suppose its good with exams coming up though...

Your answer to all your no wind worries is a mobe bar.

Simply hang a bar up in a tree with a rope and practice all your tricks in all those lightwind days.

Come & live in Melb & you will appreciate the west so much more!

Today we have had every wind point on the compass - talk about 4 seasons in 1 day.

It also seems eerily coincidental that each time you get a weekend off, or a chance to kite in the week that here is no wind. I have had 2 good kites since August....and talking to some mates, I have been lucky.

Cross fingers for this Sunday arvo & Monday - looking promising, but hopes have been dashed many times before....this weekend brings in daylight saving, sunset past 8pm - hopefully will bring some wind & not that gusty westerly direction crap either

That's ok Plow, I'm a Tassie boy so I know all about 4 seasons in 5 minutes and appreciate WA like crazy.

I wouldn't be kiting if I was still in Tas, or Vicco for that matter.

Yep - mates are talking about getting new kites, long discussions on the merits of bow kites, 5th line systems, spinning setups, board sizes and shapes...

...its always a downer when I remind them that its a rare event we get onto the water with our existing many kite & board quivers, why buy more just so you cant use them...

Looks like a holiday in Denham is about the only way to get a kite

Alright just because I am a nerd…. Last few years of October wind in Perth

2001 8 days 10-15knots 4 days of 15-20

2002 7 days of 10-15kn 7 days of 15-20 1 day of 20+ 3 frontal systems

2003 1 day 10-15 10 days of 15-20 4 days of 20+ 1 frontal system

2004 2 days of 10-15 4 days of 15-20 3 days of 20+ one frontal system

these are days that I have had on the water and are guesses at wind strengths based on seabreeze graphs… not so keen this October with Nil days on the water due to fnk work…But the start to the season has been crap

cheers

Oooooohhhooooo you guys must be hurting. Just had an hour and a half of pure joy out the front at Denham, just had to check the post to see the responses. Constant 20-25 kts and an area the size of 10 footy fields to play in. Upwind toeside, huge carve, fang back out and booooooooost. OOOooo it must hurt so bad!!! Now I've gotta catch up with crew for beers and see where Friday night takes us. Life is sooo boring without civilisation. Might go for a dive tomorrow up in the park. Hope you all have fun in your swanky restaurants, who knows the menu might get blown away by the light zephyr like breeze as it wafts across your table. And you'll sit there wondering, WOW maybe it'll get to 15 kts tomorrow. Guess what, I've got the same again tomorrow arvo. OOOO it hurts sooo bad!!!

PS. Please don't take me seriously, I'm still beaming from a great kite.

Hey Lurch,

I had a primo kite last tuesday in head-high waves and 25 knots.

You remember what waves look like, don't you ?

I guess sliders and kickers and handlepasses are the flavour in your neck of the woods.

OK you got me on that one. Living in a place without waves is pure HELL. The joy of dropping into 6 foot perfection and getting barrelled is something I dream of regularly. Kiting is the only thing that keeps me sane in a wave starved environment.

Lurch, I know you are not alone....all those fishies keep you good company. Hope the glucose is helping with the elbows...mine are just hanging in there. Oh please bring us 20 knots.....

And Gasman, you are sooooooooooo lucky.....Denham, followed by Christ. Island, too bad about the coral gash though.

Nice to see that you are optimistic HL

I know what you mean Ando, but the people will come.........because you have FN wind.....lots of newbies down in Perth, and the season hasn't even started. May be crowded down here, I'll send them all up to you.............because you have wind.

Boy did we all have a ball. It is just so much fun to go exploring as a little posse. I still have the glow sticks which I have to bring up next time...sorry I forget to leave them. I'm up to Gero before the end of the year...., perhaps will head north after business....by then you will be having 20 knots for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I'll def. be up there again in Jan.....hot time (40 plus).......fishing, and kiting in 30 knots

I could live up north in the middle of nowhere for a few months at a time easily. And why oh why do you want heaps of other kiters around? Less kiters the better...no posers!
I had a brilliant week up in gnaraloo in september with 20 knots 4 out of 6 days and some pumping swell only to come back to a perth metro teaser.

Lucky You Lurch!

A few queries about Denham:

- about the sign at the entrance of Little Lagoon that warns about stonefish: How much are these wonderful charming small creatures an issue at this location? Little lagoon looks so much like a paradisiacal body of water for kitesurfing!!!

- about seasnakes: I did some offshore work in the channel in the bay... There were dozens (hundreds??) of seasnakes floating around the boat by night... The divers i was with told me they were very poisonous but can not beat you... No matter ex-SAS they were, they were not 100% confident diving among them... What is your opinion???

I know... These queries sound like coming from a tourist... but looking at my wonderful English I bet you realised I am kind of one...

Thanks

Fred

Morning all
Bit of a sore head this morning.
Little Lagoon is cool, just a bit gusty 'cos the wind comes across the dunes. Theres stonefish in the channel and probably in the lagoon as well but if you stick to the middle where its a bit deeper no probs. I'm still here..............
Theres sea snakes in the Bay but the buggers have really tiny fangs so the chances of getting bitten are almost nil.
Its south 15-18 kts at the moment, looks like I'll cure this hangover with a couple of hours out there and it should pick up this arvo.
Hey Nick, the glucose is working well my elbows are hanging in there, cheers mate.
Oh well another day in the middle of no where just as well I got wind.

OMG, like i totally agree WTF is happening with the wind in Perth honestly this time last year i can remember it being quite good with the wind...but now....

I guess your rite kiterdan, exams are round the corner, better to have no wind and to study than have some wind and to be wishing or procastinating about going out...ha ha

Hey all this talk of up north..Thinking about going up with some mates, sounds like heading north would make sense to bring smaller kites? say 7m or 9m?

Good luck in exams
-Kat
