Hi All.
I am taking a short break at Rotto from Saturday 21st to Wednesday 25th (Anzac day). I am hoping that the wind gods play nice and I can get my kite up and going. I was thinking about trying out the nice flat water at Salmon Bay, as it sounds like that may be a good spot for me (a still struggling beginner). Of course, I dont reckon it's a good idea to go out by myself, so I am hoping someone out there in seabreezeland might be around and join me.
I will probably have a spare bunk bed.

If you are interested send me a PM for phone contact, or please reply post if you have any other tips/hints.

Bugger Nic,

I was just there last week!!

I had Salmon bay all to myself for 4+ hrs on a 20-27kts S/SW.

What a sweet spot!! Great vista. Nice casual sheltered Sth end for squids and howling reasonably flatwater main section with some bombys out back... so very sweet I almost got a cavity As you can see my teeth are ok though.

Watch out for very shallow reef up the sheltered south end, I climbed the dunes to give the joint a good squiz 1st and was glad i did - lots n lots of gnarley just hidden reef waiting to bite. Oh I and I am soooooo glad a finally rigged my 9m as a 5th line because the take off and landing were heart in mouth turbulance in the Sthly!! Can't believe I took sooo long to use my kites in their intended 5th line set-up instead of four line. SUPERCOOL!!!

My only gripe was that with no one on the beach (not even a nudie baker) the whole 4hrs, meant I was a bit reluctant to push the envelope even though I was hanging out to. I was really itching to bust quite a few more biggies on the bombies out the back but being new to the spot with 25+ kts and no rescue (or even knowledge) of a f**k right up, meant using my smarts and being here telling you all about it.

Oh the ride back (6kms each way) with the kiddy buggy on my bike acting like a boat anchor catching the breeze was a bit of a grind. Couldn't wipe the smile of my dial no matter how much my legs were burning but...

Lucky I only did a 15 min nudie bake after the kite too because I just didn't need anymore burning going on!!!

Sorry to ruin that visual for you...

Enjoy lovey

Nup - sorry don't agree - the kids buggies are way cool. I got 2 kites, board, vest , helmet, BnLines, harness, towel, drinks, change of clothes, wetty and almost a kitchen sink in there with room to move... no waiting and no struggling on the bus with gear clocking people's melons as you go bye. I think the last bus goes past about 5 ish too so that's a bit of a drag.

Daily rate for a buggy/trailer is exxy at $16 but only $6 per day from there. They hold much, much more gear on them than dive trailers too. I used both and the buggies coast better than the clapped out trailers also. Only hassle is they do act as a wind anchor on the way there and some parts the way back.

Honestly I only got the one good session while I was there and the burn on the ride on the way back was really cool... mega endorphins!!!

probably too many endorphins if you do the bike/surf/bike in the morning (specially if it's big striko's) and bike/kite/bike in the arvo

salmon isnt too far to ride but if you go further out the ride back into the breeze is a real endurance test. the first few bourbons go down real well at the end of the day though.

Glad to see there may be some of you there next week! I hadnt thought about gear logistics, was thinking just to have it all in the backpack, but now I think about it could be a bit of a challange!

Sorry I missed your week there getfunky, some time maybe we can be in the same place at the same time?!

Is Salmon Bay the nudie beach as well? Perfect!

Funny how everyone has their own things that spook them but i have still been reluctant to kite on the river until now... Perhaps it is time you showed me the way round the river situation sometime before the end of the season? Yes I am a big wuss I know Next time you are heading to the river give me a bell I am ready to be daring!!

well to be honest I'm not sure but I didn't see a single person on the beach in my 4 hrs and only one pair ride past, so in the sheltered Sth section it was togs off. I figured i wasn't going to give anyone a fright - last time someone thought an anacoda was loose and wacked me with a spade . The sun was starting to set after a mega kite... magic really... just wish I'd had a bourbon and dry or G+T there... life is really good sometimes.

Enjoy Nic - or will you be know as Nicless from now on??? LOL

Cheers,

Ian (or anacondaman) LOL maybe that will be my new sign on so I can bag the c**p outta Dvae Spruce like everyone else seems to??
