Is there anyone living in Perth that has a Kite/Golf bag that they are not using for the next three weeks that would be willing to let me lend it in exchange for a carton of Crownies or a bit of Cash. I don't plan on travelling often so I cant justify buying a new one for myself.
I can leave a deposit and will guarantee a new bag should anything happen to yours.
If anyone wants to sell a bag I will look at that option also.

Cheers

whats wrong with getting some bubble wrap and taping it to your board (cost$5), then you strap your board to your kite bag, been OS twice works perfect, less weight.

Tip: when wrapping make sure it is easy to undue and re-do.

Thanks for the tip Bowski.
If I don't have any luck I will give the bubble wrap a go.
How does your method work if you plan on taking a few kites and a board?

Does anybody else have a good method of taking a few kites on a plane to the east coast?

Cody,
I was under the same impression with regards to excess baggage which is part of the reason I am chasing a golf bag.
It could be that nobody has a bag to lend or -
Maybe it will take two cartons to get someone to lend a bag.

Surely somebody has a bag sitting in the shed gathering dust that they could spare for a few weeks.

G'day there mate.

I have a cheeseburger that you might be able to borrow. But I've actually decided that other techniques are better

What I've started to do is to remove the fins/straps/handles from my boards. I can fit three boards into a 150 Flying objects kitebag. I wrap the middle board in a blanket so they don't get scratched. Three boards together are pretty strong, sop not worried about them getting broken.

I then take three kites plus my wettie/harness etc in two kite bags.

This is a whole lot easier. The cheeseburger is so big, that if you fill it up you can't really move it. You also get soem funny looks from airline staff, and you routinely get told that they can't guarantee they will take it.

If, despite this very bad effort at salesmanship, you still want the cheeseburger, no problem in theory. Unfortunately I'm leaving Perth permanently in a couple of weeks. When could you return it?

Ha, you wouldn't try fitting it in a black cab in South Africa though

tell them there's a snake in the bag somewhere and you may get room

on a more serious note there was a head on black taxi crash, all 58 passengers survived

you will only get slugged in australia is you fly jet star, they are a freakin rip off when it comes to baggage, everyone else weighs sporting luggage at 5kg, i flew to the cocos with 2 kites and board last year, it came to about 26kg, they are very tight on excess as the plane is small and i had no probs, a board bag weighs about a couple of kgs, bubble wrap weighs practically nothing and protects it all. As with kites in golf bags from best and so forth, the reason it used to save baggage was because of a gentlemens agreement between airlines and the elite sport that golf gear always travelled free, that wrought has finished and airlines were issued with instructions, however as i said most airlines weigh sporting goods at a total of 5kg, so you should be right.
