If so, can you recommend somewhere to fly a trainer kite?

Tried queen's park, there's no wind, due to it's elevation I think - and centennial park has too many trees.

I found a fairly good spot on the cliffs at Bronte, but I keep nearly beheading people's dogs and/or small children.

Any tips much appreciated.

Theres a park/ soccer field next to Clovelly Lawnbowls, just down the road from the cementry on Ocean Street(off Boundary Rd). Not sure what its like in winds from the north though??? Very little use of the field and decent wind. And you can always walk down to the sea pool to cool off after your finished.

Cool, thanks Cabron, I'll try there.

(edit - just realised, that's where I have been going! In between bronte and clovelly? Guess yesterday was busy because it was a sunday...)

Yeah, I thought about there too, bit of a hike though...

Does anyone know if there are any cable ski places in NSW?

There is a good spot to fly your trainer oppisite my place at Maroubra. On the map, its called Lurline Bay, but it is basically the next headland north of Maroubra Beach. The cliffs are about 25m above the surf, so you get a good updraft rushing accross the park in almost any direction (except westerly).

As for cable parks... Panthers is the only one. I don't think they have turned it on for about 3 years.

Yep panthers is dead and buried - never to be re-opened due to "insurance issues".

Shame really, that place was tonnes of fun (and pain!)

Hmm, not sure about those recommendations... All of the ones presented (except lurline bay which i have not checked out) are small/have dogs/really gusty, etc.. Certain spots in centennial park imho are the best in the area. The cricket/soccer field in the middle of the park is the best when noone is playing cricket as it is big and open and there are few dogs but yes it can get a bit gusty at times, but it is large enough that you can fly a fair way downwind of most obstacles.

If you are happy to go a bit further north there is a large park north of bondi which is a very good spot and there are large parks above the sea cliff wall at vaucluse (check google maps). Keep well away from tourists/kids etc.. at these locations.

The best spots i know of are in sutherland shire, if you are prepared to head south, wanda, kurnell etc...

I live at clovelly and definately wouldnt kite the lawn bowl park.

Heffron Park in Daceyville, its on Bunnerong Rd, just south of the 5 ways intersection at Kensington, good spot in all wind directions, little bit gusty at ground level.

Further south along Bunnerong Rd, just south of Eastgardens shopping centre is a huge park, bounded by Bunnerong Rd, Fitzgerald Ave, Robey St, and Jersey Rd.

Maroubra beach, south end is best in a NE, can be crowded on a hot day, but if it is windy you will be almost alone.

Coogee beach in a Southerly to South east. All along the cliff tops North of Coogee beach.

Park at the South end of Bondi Beach, Mckenzies Pt.

North side of Bondi beach, in around the Golf Course you can squeeze in a session.

Old South head rd in Vaucluse, excellent park on the cliff top, popular with other kite flyers.

Hope that helps?

Cya and

Goodwinds

I went to that park in vaucluse - great spot, but the FLIES drove me FCKING MAD

So I had to leave after about half an hour, before I murdered someone out of sheer, blind rage.

I really should take up meditation or get some valium or something

I'm with you on most of those points, but I haven't seen so many gorgeous women since I moved to Bondi.

Granted, most of them are vacuous tarts, but hey, if I want a good conversation I can go the pub.
