Yep body dragging around for a board would look jut like a big popper been towed around.

The small size of you board zipping around in the wave zone would look like a seal pup.

Best if every body stopped kiting know and left the oceans for the sharks...

On a more serious note the next few months are shark season thru the metro area with the whales starting there migaration...

shane

Condolances to the guy's family and friends

Your thirty times more likely to be killed by falling aircraft parts than die in a shark attack (but shark attacks get a lot more attention). The odds of dying in a car accident also well out way the risk of shark attack. Just by getting to the carpark you have already avoided the biggest risk! Ten Australians are killed by lightning every year, versus an annual average of one for fatal shark attacks (although the relative risks are different: you can be struck by lightning almost anywhere, but you have to be in the water to risk a shark attack).

I was kiting last year off Warrnambool, Victoria, sitting out the back of the break tuning my gear when a pretty large Moby swam straight up under me. I saw it coming (luckily) and managed to take off but it was only about 2 foot away as i went over the top of it,,...absolutely shat myself...end of session. My ass has got to look pretty tasty from below!

i know there are all these stats out there saying you'll die in a car crash over everything else, but What A way to Go, EATEN ALIVE. Car crashes are the last thing on your mind when your out at sunrise in a deep break with superb swell/wind. It gives ya the heebeee jeebees when a swirl or dark shadow moves past........rule number 1- never talk about sharks when your already in the water!!! your mind will play tricks on you....

Was surfing at Scarbs this morning and we were all watching the choppers following a couple of fisheries boats around .After about 20 mins they were right out the front of us and only abouty 500m out when we noticed a shadow under us moving quickly ?????
Next thing we saw was a SEAL pop up , it all happened so quickly I didn't even have time to ** myself .
Surf was too good to go and sit on the beach so everybody stayed out , there is a risk but when you get mornings like today it is worth the risk .
Had a big black shadow follow me around in Augusta last year , same again before I had figured out that it wasn't a dolphin (and ** myself) it was gone . Stayed out that time too . That was a whole lot freakier though , real shark and only one out . Told myself he had a look and didn't want me so I was in the clear .
Had a great 3 hours out and when I went in it turned out to be a whale caught up on some floats or something .

well, I've been bitten by a 5 foot wobblegong at prevely near margs down south, just above the knee and hit it with my arm,(couldn't even see what it was through the foam, but didn't hurt much, felt like the start of a jellyfish sting) and it let go in 2001,
then in 2002, i saw some " THING " with dale swimming at about 30 kts around 2-3 metres long just around from the ammo jetty on rotto that was easily out pacing the fastest i'd ever been on the water, ,then in 2003 i rode straight over a 5-6 foot hammerhead that was swimming in 5 metres of clearish water about 2 feet deep on my 16 metre with "light winds" over east and it looked like it piss bolted straight down, as i came up from behind it, and was over it by the time i realised what it was..
just wondering how big the next one i see is going to be?
and when to start putting the shark repelant in the back pocket of my harness !
