Firstly, I have to apologise to those out on the west coast who had the wind die on them in the evening - I finished work, so they switched the bloody fan off. [}:)]

So whats the deal then? It gets light before 6 now, but dark at just gone 6. If I had another hour I would have been sorted, been there when it was still blowing and not had to worry about not being able to see the beach.

Tell me, who else wants it?? What would do with your hour?

Welcome to WA, 20 years behind the rest of the country. Like shop trading hours change is slow to come to this part of the world. In a place that boasts a "unique lifestyle" you think they would be first to embrace an extra hour of outdoor social life in the summer.

Why o why we dont have daylight savings makes me wanna cry every time I think of it

Got something to do with the extra hour of light fading the curtains and confused milk cows and farmers

well, you could do your own daylight saving and start an hour earlier and finish an hour earlier.

Your boss should be accustomed to you just leaving at 3pm when the wind blows now anyways - right ?

Just moved to WA and was pleding my case to a guy at school and his reply to daylight savings was

"i couldnt afford to lose an hours sleep every night"

Thats worse than the queensland farmers arrgument of there cows wont know when to produce milk

jeez i dont know maybe when you put the suction cups on there nipples!!!!!!!

Come on WA you have the best beaches going let the people who finish work after 6 enjoy them!!!!

It appears I may have.....an army. Although I cant fight today cos Ive only just finished lunch and have had too many beers. Thats a unique lifestyle!

Everything else about WA is beut, people, place, weather work, all brill.

But loosing an hours sleep? thats so lame. The cows getting upset from the wrong diner time is even lamer! Com'on WA do it!!!!

Have you ever seen the stickers "I fish and I vote", well I reckon we should start a campaign, "I kitesurf (or whatever else) and I vote, daylight savings now" if you did it on a club level, every outdoor activity in Perth would jump on the bandwagon and maybe it would get something rolling for the next state election.

Lifestyle businesses are an important part of Australias economy yet pollies couln't really careless.
In 2000 when the olympics were on we had Knight time(named after the minister for the olympics )and it started early september .It was early days in kitesurfing but I had a cracker year with lessons and sales which really got things going here in Newcastle because people would come down after work for a lesson because it was warm and windy and still light .Also I am sure that people without a business interest also enejoy the light after work and do things like excercise(yes pollies an antidote for the obesity crisis) ,get together outdoors with friend s and family and turn the bloody idot box off .
This year there was talk of coming in line with the progressive state (Tassie) and kick it off now .Nope didn't happen ,hopefully next year .
on the flip side I have 2 daughters verging on teenage years and its hard enough dragging them out of bed in time for school, even when it is getting light at 5 30 am (now). At the end of daylight saving it's impossible with family conflict a feature of march each year (light at 7 am ) Seriously tho this is a minor problem compared to say Sweeden or Northern USA /Canada where the sun doesn't come up in winter until 8 am (and in some places not at all due to the smog)

Should be easy for progressive WA companies to let their people start at 6am rather than wait for the clock to change. Just think of it, less congestion on the roads, good time to work with the workaholics over East, and your on the water by 2:30

I've been saving up my own hours, so far I have a drawer full of them, my plan is to meter them out over summer (only when it's blowing)... is this the kind of thing you fella's are talking about?

We all know that the sun shines out of AZZA's ass.

And he's not staying up an extra hour for no one.

Well, yes, flexi-time is a gift from the gods - but our core hours are till 4. If I drive then I could get to the water for 4.15-4.30, but that'll get pricey. Plus theres nothing better than kiting for hours till you cant move and packing up in the dark.

Anyway, its going to be windy all day tomorrow. Apparently, theres something else happening as well, or so the rumour goes.

Bumper stickers, now thats a bloody good idea.

Guys,
The reason QLD don't have daylight savings is because the extra sunlight fades the cows

after living in WA for 30 yrs, i've always been against daylight savings. it's bad enough being behind all the other states and conducting business or staying in touch with friends. it's frustrating being 2 hours behind the east, which turns into 3 when they switch. i hate getting up in the winter to darkness. so i love summer when the sun is up and i'm getting to work. AND i used to start @ 6am and finish at between 3-4. so i've always had light after work. in fact, i think we should abolish the time zones altogether! having said all that, i'm now a wanna be kite surfer, and have left WA, so good luck with next year. and move your clocks forward by 3 hours to be in sync with the rest of us.
