I went down safety bay last saturday and there was about six fellows there, said hello to them. (not ozzy`s, very broken english) Two of them had their board leashes attatched and I thought "please go somewhere else with those stupid things."
Also, safety bay has such a big area to set up that`s far away from the trees, road, power lines etc, why do people (even some locals) still set up by the beach closest to the road? These are the people that think nothing wrong ever happens to them.
I saw one tool and he is a local young lad, fly his kite right up to the trees and land it there. Why! I know at some spots you don`t have a lot of choice, but safety bay has a nice big safe bay area.
As for landing and launching. I`m always looking around in case someone needs a hand. (funnny, cause I`m not AUSTRALIAN).

if you cant launch or land yourself what happens when you crash your kite out in deep end of the pool ??? do you wait for someone to come and save you or do you learn the basics of kiting before you ask someone to stop rigging up to attend to your needs . perhaps you would have better luck if you asked "can i rig up for you than would you mind helping me launch" you may think that you are the only person who needs help but when you are asked many, many times before you get to the water yourself .well , you have seen the response you will get . it is so easy to learn self take off and land 10 mins tops ( for your own safety you should learn) a lot of the time the launcher can get you in a lot of trouble if they don't know what they are doing or in a bad mood it also helps if you ever want to kite by yourself . don t be in such a hurry to get out there and take some time to learn the basics . you will be surprised how easy it is .

why ask other people to help you if you can do it yourself.?????

yeh its great knowledge to be able to self launch and stuff but if he turned around and did that and then some other kook is like 'hows this knob at the local kite beach self launched with us down wind of him and then it well pear shaped and almost hit us....he could have asked for a launch' you would all be then calling rk a knob for not asking well now he has asked so he was doing the safe thing and not putting the rep of the sport in risk.

i think its stupid how he rolled his eyes at you, it takes like 1 mintue tops to land a kite and launch one. sadly we cant do anything about it but people readding these forums should change there attitude.

Kaos69, I see myself as a competent safe kiter with a few years under my belt, but not for one second do I think I wont make a mistake at anytime. (No one is perfect dude)

is this not a free country we live in if someone chooses for what ever reason not to run to assist you , is that not there right to do so with out criticism from you ???? it sounds as though you expect help and may have been a bit upset when they did not jump when you expected them to . cool down a bit dude and you may find people a bit more helpful . enough said, hope theres wind tomorrow we all need a good hit out

See the water tanks in the back ground in rk's avatar....well there are 2 towns with those and they get more wind than anywhere else along the west coast.
