Hey all,

There's always been a lot of claiming about who's fastest and whos not, well, here's your chance to settle the score and prove to all, that you really can scorch the water.

As part of our commitment to giving back to the sport and trying to introduce a little good ol' fashion fun into the game, AKS is planning on running an informal slalom race series over the summer. It ain't about prize money or big prizes, it's about fun.

The series will be run over the summer and will consist of a race afternoon about every three weeks. A total of 6 races will be held on Saturday afternoons with results contributing to an overall pointscore winner at the end of the season. May even be a trophy

Racing will likely be a beach start (rabbit start), and will follow a zig zag course downwind in the choppiest water we can find to make it more interesting Heats of up to 8 riders each will be run if we get enough interest.

We would be charging a very small fee to cover cost of rounding marks and rashies. Our boat, fuel, and our time would be supplied free of charge. You will have to be a paid up member of WAKSA to participate or have purchased IKO Kiteboarder personal insurance.

All I want at the moment is; if this sounds like fun to you??, and if you would be interested in participating?? If we get enough interest, I'll put dates up on our website in a couple of weeks and make an announcement on seabreeze calling for registration.

Tell me what you think!

Good winds,

I'm up for it

Not sure what you mean by rabbit start Darren? If it's starting one-at-a-time as someone runs down the line of riders standing with kites overhead then I'm not a big fan.

Also keen to see triangle courses:
  • different strategy and skills
  • easier to organize with start and finish line at the same location

BTW if people are up for the Peli Point/ Melville challenge again this year bring it on - I think we've been waiting for three years now for the Melville crew to get off the butts and organize something www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=25091

Hi guys,

The events would not necessarily be held at Pinnaroo due to crowding issues although this would be easiest. I was thinking either upwind or downwind of Pinnaroo ie the waters in front of Sorrento, or downwind of Pinnas but south of Mullaloo. We need to be close to a ramp which only offers either Hillarys or Whitfords. Could even look at a spot on the river although yacht racing could pose a major hassle on weekends.

We need to make sure other user groups are impacted as little as possible. Any ideas are more than welcomed.

Good winds,

Darren,
quinns has nice water for course racing, and just around the corner from mindarie marina, not overly crowded either. Bit of a hike for the normal crew down there though.

Add one more to the list.

North is good, so is south... either way, if I'm in Perth, I'll be in it.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the feedbacks and votes of confidence for the series. I think the best and most fun idea would be to have it at different venues ie, Mindarie, Pinnaroo, Leighton, Woodies, and the river.

I think we'll make one race a proper triangular course with an upwind leg, probably best on the river for that one, but all others to be downwind slalom style.

We will have a maximum 16 places with two heats of 8 riders each and a final heat to work out the placements. Heats will race for a final spot. Top 4 of each heat go through with points awarded at the end.

Points will be accumulated over the series with the winner announced at the end of the season.

I will put it together and announce registration when we are ready to go, then announce dates and course locations on seabreeze and our website.

Thanks to all for the enthusiasm. Lets have some fun!

Good winds,
