North Kiteboarding Australian is proud to support the North Kiteboarding International Young Blood Camp.

As part of our support, North Kiteboarding Australia is running our own national Young Blood Camp, the first one on the 23rd-28th November in Conjunction with the Mambo Wave Sailing Classic, at Merimbula NSW Australia.

Who can attend?
The camp is open to any young Kiteboarder under the age of 18 (before the 1st December 2006). Attendance is free, however you must arrange your own Accomidation and food. (riders do not have to be riding North kites, all gromms are welcome!)

The concept!
Take the hottest young riders in Australia, give them coaching from top National and International experienced riders, add in a little
Physical, Psychological and Contest training, and let these kids take
kiteboarding to the next level.

Who will be the Instructors?
International Team Rider JAIME HERRAIZ joined by NSW and QLD 2006 Wave
Champion and Top Australian North Team Rider PAUL JACKSON, will be on hand to coach all Young Blood contestants during the intensive training.
Young Blood contestants will be trained by use of personal one on one
instruction as well as video coaching.

The aim!
To improve our young bloods knowledge and performance in Contest riding, mental and physical training, photography riding & R?sum? building, but most importantly having fun and a good time!

The big bonus!
Upon completion of the Australian Yong Blood Camp, North Kiteboarding Australia will be selecting one contestant to send to the International Young Blood Camp including return air fares.

Young Blood Contestants will have special riding time during the Mambo
contest on the 23rd-26th where extensive video documentation will be taken. Then on the 27th & 28th November following straight after the Mambo the concentrated training will start.

Registration will be at the normal Mambo registration.

What Groms ???

I very rarely see any.

Groms are not the future of the sport.

Converting people from other sports is.
Windsurfers,surfers,wakeboarders,snowboarders etc.that have a car and a couple of thousand dollars to spend on gear.

Bit of a joke really,You industry guys ask for $2000 for a kite,then expect young kids to take up the sport!

"Hey Dad,can you swing us five grand so I can buy 2 kites and a board?"

"NO way son,but if you do a paper run you can buy a surfboard.Or you can wait to your birthday and I will get you a boogie board.Thats all your mates have anyway.No good doing something your mates dont do,is there?"

has anyone actually bought 2 $2000 kites and a $1000 board?
you could buy a 2nd hand 9 and 12 M80 quiver and still have enough over to get a decent board for that. keep it realistic and why do we need a future of the sport-its going to get crowded out at the rate its popularity is increasing.

User, you sound a bit negitive on the gromms.

This years QLD and NSW wave states saw the most gromm's at an event yet! I wouold say that there is more gromms now than ever.

But you are right that we do need to influence more people from other sports aswell to try kiteboarding!

But I think you are missing the point a bit by bring the money thing into it! This camp is to help the gromms that are already kiting, so they can expand their skills and talents and have a better chance at going further in the sport as professionals (if that is what their desire is). As these young atheletes will be the focal point of the sport in years to come via competitions, events and advertizing, I would say that they very much are the future of the sport, they are not the be all and end all of the sport, but they will be a significant focal point that a large number of people will use as examples and figure heads of this sport!

Anyway, it will be a great experience for them either way!

I didn't want to be negative.I think its great that groms are being encouraged.

Its just that I feel that cliche: "Groms are the future of the sport" is overdone.If they are the "future" of the sport,then in a few years there will only be 25 kiters in the country !

It didn't work in windsurfing.

were did that logic come from
even if everyone that was over the age of 17 stopped kiting in the next 2 years there would be more than 25 kiters, 2005 State Flat water had about or less than 3 <19 riders, this year there was 8. more than twice the number than the previous year. next year its going to be more than 14.
look around and realize that in 5 years it will be young guys who haven't even touched a kite yet that will be dominating the rankings while all the old "current future of the sport" riders will be on the shore line going, "ya i would go out and show you my 20 foot dingle dangle but you know how it is with my knee and back."
its a joke if you think you and all the mid life crisis riders will take the sport anywhere-the future isn't just about people kiting, its about the new riding and im sure you guys can buy your $4000 worth of kites and support those going hard, although im just a kite and have fun type.

*70% of 2nd season groms are sponsored and would be making money from selling their kites at the end of a season.-but you guys keep getting in to keep the market value up for us[}:)]

the real problem is most kids dont get big enough or confident enough with kite skills to throw down legit moves until they are past 17, mind you there are always some exceptions to this rule.

If Paul J offers to show you what a 'beach launch slingshot' is, politely decline, then run and hide

when i first started kiting i was the only grom at noosa. now there are atleast 4 or 5 and thats only noosa. I bet it is the same for a lot of places. how are the numbers decreasing

Unfortunately entry fees are made up of the cost of fascilities and equipment needed to run the event, then devided by the expected number of perticipants. In all events, the aim is to finish a single elimination in all catagories. It would be great to see as many gromm's as Open competitors one day, maybe that would bring more enphacis to the Juniors.
Iunderstand the expences involved, it is not easy. and it is great to see so many family's making the sacrifices needed to attend so many events. Maybe this is something that event organizes can look at in the future.

1. which comps are you talking about where the juniors pay less?
2. if there are 4times as many men (open) as there are others, why wait till all the mens heats are done before moving to the j's, women and masters?
slot the minority groups throughout the heats, or something loke that so that thr rounds are completed together at the same time.
I appreciate the importance of the mens open event, but I've also hear comments from masters and parents of the second fiddle feel that they get.
