Am heading down to Augusta for the long weekend. Assuming there is kiteable wind, where does one lauch to kite on the river?

I've had a look on Google earth & can see what looks like a decent launch spot along Albany Terrace but any locals/regulars who could advise, greatly appreciated.

cheers

Just launch on the beach by the river. You won't have any problems with that, you'll see when u get there.

Yep. Launch off the beach. The waves out the front are very very fun and then you can easily tack down to the river mouth and then basically straight into the river for flat water.

It is possible to launch off the river side of the dunes into flat water, but you need to walk up along the river edge toward the river mouth a fair way because the further you are from the river mouth the gustier and sketchier it is. Even in good conidtions, launching straight into the river is sketchy, and there isn't really a nice place to pump up and rig.

You will need asistance to launch on the river side, walk allong the river for 100m until you get clean air, roll out lines along the rivers edge on the lumpy grass and get some one to chuck the kite up, or drift launch from the river.
Heaps easier on the ocean side but then you may want to kite in the river and you got to kite all the way around the back to get to the river mouth.
Have fun, its a great spot, too cold for me now though.

Would you need to launch downwind if you're using a foil?

The river bank beach wasn't any good for that in a SW summer seabreeze. OK for LEIs tho.

Yep Foosh is right the set up is not too flash for trying to launch a foil and Juddy I know that you fly Peter Lynns so be warned this is one occasion where a LEI wins.
The area you are looking at on google is probably where the carpark is, it is surrounded by a fence so doesnt work and the rivers edge hasn't got much of a beach and has a bit of a wind shadow down low due to the dunes, on an inflato you can get an assisted launch just fifty or so metres up, or drift it out onto the water to launch but with a foil I think you would have to walk a long way up (a km or so) till there is more of a beach and the dunes are lower. I tried to upload a couple of photo's of the area but for some reason they didn't work, I'm pretty sure I have your email address so will shoot them to you so you can see what you are up against.
I think your best bet would be to launch further south on the ocean side then kite back around (or walk over) to the river if you want to try the flat water...........or borrow a real kite.
