I don't know any kite brands that are Australian made.
Its not easy to start a kite factory. There is a lot of skills, knowledge and background involved.

I think someone posted about this before.

transitionsurf seems to be just retailer of JN kite.

There once was a brand.

They charged $5,000 per kite. And still lost money.

They asked the Government for grant money. Govt said no.

They asked the unions for a wage cut. Unions said no.

They asked the landlord for a rent decrease. Landlord said no.

Sound familiar?

harry,

It's a shame that we dont see New around, Nate was based in Geraldton but I would think the kites would still be manufactured in China.
We (Ikon Kiteboarding) are based in Perth all year long for development. As competition is hard, we are also manufacturing overseas.

Most of the world production is build in China,Vietnam or Sri Lanka.

You can still support the local shapers and designers by riding local brands of boards and kites.

If I remember correctly it takes over 40 hours of ''hand labor'' to produce each kite. Even at minimum wage in Australia that would easily more than double the cost per kite.

He was actually thee designer for Wipika kites for a number of years. Good bloke. I don't know what happened to New, I guess it fell to the side like lots of other small brands do, lets face it kiting isn't exactly a lucrative market.
