I am a software engineer, testing mobile phones for a phone manufacturer and my boss is based in the UK. So i only see him once a year. I usually work late evenings thru to early mornings in summer to go kiting once the wind picks up. And living across the road from the beach which is also where I work from is even better. But i do love having a boss thats not based in Australia.

myth, not reality... but I used to love the fact that whenever it was reaching 25 knots, it was my turn....
Out of all the jobs I've done, this was certainly the one with the sweetest lifestyle!
Is there a job one can't do above 15 knots????

Like that one!!!!
Your boss can't yell at you from where you are, you can listen to the music you want, sing as loud and as wrong as you wish, don't need to log on to seabreeze to know what the wind's doing, you're always outdoors, get your adrenalin fix daily no matter what and I was once told it pays very well too... The landscape and the perspective keep on changing and the view's always great (because if the location sucks, there's always the other side of the window... And you never know your luck: you might end up with better shots than Havox! )
Anyone up for a vocational conversion?
That's a pretty cool one!

It's what i'm aiming for! Although not unnecessarily for Kiting. More for my hang gliding. I have a friend who is a top comp pilot working for Lufthansa and it works out great for her! She works whenever she needs to and the rest of the time her sponsors pay for her to compete in amazing places like at the moment she's in Brazil.

The best thing about being a flight attendant is that your shifts are quite negotiable because they work on a casual basis and only really have to work a set number of shifts a month. as soon as you've worked your shifts you're free to do what you like for the rest of the month! I'd bunch up all my hours so i'd work like crazy for a couple of weeks, then have the next two weeks to be a lazy HG/kiter bum.

Not forgetting the savings you'd make on airfares to all the best locations.

sorry But I fear you may be wrong there tina.

I used to work as a Rampie for Skippers Airlines and as An Aircraft Maintenance Engineer for PremiAir Aviation as well as An Engine Mechanic for China Southern Flying school. And I have many ummm 'friends' who are Hosties.

It is true that you work shifts and only have to do a set number per month, but it is a very very tiring job and I doubt even the Red Bull BULL could do more than 5 shifts in a row.

see, Pilots are sitting down most of the flight, but Hosties are moving around the plane a lot during flight, plus the constant pressurisation and depressurisation of the fuselage during flight causes a lot of problems for Hosties.

but If you want some contacts to get a toehold into some companies i can help ya there: Im still in touch with a lot of the senior flight attendants of a few companies and also helped the Chief of police with a problem he was having with his Thermocouple on his brand spanking new Pilatus PC-12. which is a kickass (lear-jet style) personal jet.

pm me for details.

oh and thanks merman...MORE COWBELL!

INfiniDIE mentioned the coppers and he's got it pretty well sussed.

Plus the funniest thing is only one station in WA is doing a roster that was mentioned earlier, 2 days, 2 nights, four days off and that station happens to be Geraldton

The other thing for coppers is you can have 6 paid months off a year if you get injured

And the good news is they're that desperate for recruits they'll take anyone.

Know how you feel mate, I'm more than in the same boat.

Worked nearly everyday of mid year uni holz, got straight back to uni (doing 6 courses which is 1 full degree, and 1/2 another degree - Primary Teaching & Secondary Graphics and Engineering) to be thrown into hospital with Glandular Fever. Not a nice thing and some nice hard drugs to be on too. Been **** feeling since.

Got to laugh when ur told 'you HAVE to take the next 6 weeks off uni and work' hah yeah doc. sorry but i cant.

Not to mention no energy level.

Uni = Mon Tue Wed
Work = Thur Fri
Me Time & Mates - Sat Sun.

Last time kited. About 4 months ago or more =[

This Summer my aim is to be at the beach more than anything. Missing it like crazy.

No, I lost my new house, the new furniture (big screen tv's, surround sound and all the fruit !.

Kept my car (it's a peice of **** disco), I'm hocked up with the boat, so if she wants it she can have the massive debt that goes with it !

She's got enough, way over $220,000.00 worth in cash, car & furniture! I got **** all ! but i'm happier now

Yep that’s the price of happiness, money can’t buy it but it sure can settle it.

I've been doing a bit of rope access work this year. The owner of the business kites at dolls. It all depends on the building height but generally when the wind picks up over 20 knots we pack up but we first look for drops on the lee side of the building. The view is good but most of the time you are staring at a wall or piece glass 30cm in front of your face. We are payed by the drop so you don't get a lot of time to look around if you want to make good money. Don't earn money if it’s raining. If the building isn't bolted you are lugging 150 kgs to the top of the building as counter weights and moving them 15 times a day. It keeps you very fit

I prefer the Film Industry make good money working 2 or 3 days a week. The working conditions are much better the food is amazing. Get to go to amazing places and travel. Only problem is when you’re at work it doesn’t matter what the winds doing your working. Even if you’re at the beach in a 15 knot cross shore sea breeze. But ever now and then you get a cancellation fee and get to go kiting and be payed for the day or be payed for a full day wrapped by 12 noon and on the water by 2pm after having a gourmet lunch.

Yeah but the injuries on "The Force" tend to be a lot more serious than "I fell off my desk at work" they're more like...i got shot in the head.

I'm actually in the recruitment process right now, 2 more stages to go, some dude apparently got thru and was on his first op, went to a disturbance in balga...BOOM! shot in the chest, first day on his job...That'd suck.
