hey JL

Bowen was good, we had some fun times, the comp was small, not alot of riders attended.
saterday was realy windy and we started a freeride session, everybody had a fun time and did realy powerfull tricks, Nathen McPaul was throwing some awesome tricks and so were the local groms.
The masters were mixing old school tricks with powered wake style.
It was a shame that there was only 3 women competeing. but it was nice to throw some moves and having a blast on the water with girlfriends.
One of the girls named Coralie, was from Tahiti and it was her 1st comp ever, she was so excited, but a bit nervous at times, i think she enjoyed it and she did realy well for her 1st time.
hope to see more of her in the next comps

overall, everybody had a great time even though on sunday it sarted to rain and all our kites were dripping wet riders were still out in the water having fun.

Thanks to all the Coconet team for their efforts ( i know it can be very hard to organise a kite comp with thoes sorts of conditions)
and thanks for all the riders that came up and had a nice kiting weekend!

Had an awesome time, huge thanks to the Coconet crew and all riders who made the trip and put in plenty of energy on and off the water. Big thanks to Chris Ryan and Danielle McPaul for alot of runnning around and making sure we got to and from the river mouth and pub!

The level of riding was still high despite the numbers, with Nathan pretty much blowing up with a huge variety, Cam Prest was his usaully smooth and powered self throwing a huge back to blind with tail grab and the Mackay guys, Joe, Thomas and crew were super powered and styley.

The groms showed why they get respect, Tannum lads with their powered wake influence and the stand out for my mind was young Tom Ryan, huge improver this year, landing back to blind, pull ups, my favorite the Mary Poppins and generally riding with purpose.

In the masters, it has long been my aim to try and lift the bar in this category to help entice some of the older more settled guys back into the freestyle comp arena. I know by the feeling my body has right now, I wished I stomped more landings but I had a great time and was enjoying getting back into some powered riding after the neck almost broke!!

The girls always look like they enjoy the riding the most, Melissa from ARSA always has huge smiles and heaps of time for all competitors on and off the water. Coralie, again my deepest apologies for completely creasing you with a looping kite and good luck with your riding and future comps! Marine...Mushi Mushi... always great to watch and best wishes for future KPWT events.

Looking forward to the wave comps coming up and then into the freestyle again for next years Tannum Coconet Classic which is promised to be even bigger and better in 08! Again thanks to Tim and the Coconet Family, much respect!!

Cheers Uncle Sid

i didn't go in the comp (masters...only in Bowen for saturday) but had a very nice kite on my 9m in the cross-shore and sometimes gusty conditions....ours is almost always onshore...

....its always great to try a new spot and meet some of the locals...

a nice atmosphere with everyone being friendly and helpful...wind always seems to make us obsessed people happier....everyone had a smile...

..great to catch up with a few you don't see often and to get a look at some of the new kites ....btw...thanks Joe for the test run on the new 10m Nemi HP...

some excitement even though not as many kiters in the comp as i expected to see.....but then our season up this way has been crap this year........one or two loose kites due to busted leashes, an almost sunken support boat in the creek mouth as it went to give aid to a kiter, quite a few spectators considering the sand blowing at times.........worth the few hours drive to get there...

people did have some cameras out so someone must have a few pics to post..the guys/gals in the comp were doing the tricks almost next to the shore....through a gap between the sand spit and a sand bar...

what a ripper of a weekend but !!

the locals went back out sunday arvo as most of them had commitments in the parade (and couldn't enter the comp )and had another go at the 18+ knot winds...
many a sore bodies after that weekend as lots hadn't seen wind or water in months.
thanx to all who lobbed to Bowen to have a go or just play in the water ..it was a great weekend yet again ...

Can I ask exactly where in Bowen this was held?

We were in Bowen a few weeks ago and had a look at a spot called Kings Beach, which looked like it might be ok. Wind direction was wrong though, so we checked out one of the Northern beaches instead. Can't remember exactly which one, but there was loads of debris (large sticks etc) all over the beach and more dog-5h!t than I've ever seen on any other beach in my life

don't know about the dog ****.....but the northern end of queens beach was where it was held....creek mouth....yasa point?....and yes...lots of sticks....

baggsy is a local....he would be able to advise you....

from what i've been told....the marina area, kings beach and Queens northern end are all good...depending on wind direction...
