What a sad ending to am otherwise great trip in WA..... had a great session at Woodies yesterday with some great people, sessioned for near on 4hours, my better half came along to take some pictures hung around for about an hour, then went back to the car to find some FU**ING TWAT had smashed the car window and stolen her handbag... Now I dont know if the culprate was a kitesurfer, I would be really gutted if it was.... but honestly how someone can have no regard for other peoples property like that I just dont understand, they got away with 2 phones, 2 credit cards, a bit of cash and a book (the new Ben Elton)... So if any of your mates appears with a new phone or has a book in his car by Ben Elton (which seems strange as anyone who steals and causes such damage like that couldnt possibly have the brains to read)..... have a word....
Im sure it isn't a kiter.... but really just wanted to warn you all... DONT LEAVE ANYTHIGN IN YOUR CAR AT WOODIES as it may be stolen...
Any one else been robbed/car broken into??????
Take care everyone...

Last year english flexi foil designers got broken into.
Locals never do.......
just an observation.
legend has it that when the first english under Captain James Stirling came to Perth a party landed at woodmans point. They were met by a group of Whadjuk people. Ensued a violent slaughter of the Whadjuk.
From that day forth, all english and euro's have been cursed by break in, theft and even beat down at woodmans point. Nobody truly knows by who. But many claim it is the the spirit of the Whadjuk people, while others claim its there current day descendents.

No it is NOT kitesurfers. There are plenty of dregs who hang around knowing that kiters are easy pickings.

Woodies is well known for break ins - but there haven't been many for a long time 'cos everyone keeps their valuables out of site, or doesn't bring them. There's lots of hoons around, but your fine if you keep valuables out of sight.

Sorry to her that man, there have been quite a few reports recently, and it unfortuently seems not confined to one place or group - quite a few cars have been hit at trigg recently.
Good to meet you the other day, safe journey home!

Leave anything you can't afford to lose at home.........but then again, your house can get robbed while your kiting ........what's a person to do.........1 in 1000 event I'm afraid.
Only place on earth that I've heard of where people actually steal each others live stock........burn the bastards.
Have a good trip back Jez and really sorry to hear what happened. At least you've got your gear and had a good time.

I'd be interested to know if people who are leaving nothing in their car and leaving the glove box open ( and empty) and radio face off ever get broken into... thats what I do and have done 4-8 weeks solid around christmass and never get broken into.

Yeah that bites. What is wrong with our society that it breeds this filth?

NEVER EVER EVER leave anything in your car that could remotely be seen as stealable at any kitesurfing spots. All popular kitesurfing spots are on the circle route of carparks that thieves drop by multiple times every day. If you leave a handbag on a car seat, more times than not you will loose it at a place like woodmans point. Note that local cars are not safe, they dont give a crap where you live.
To give yourself the best protection do the following:
- Leave your mobile phone and wallet at home, they are never safe on the beach or in your car.
- Never leave any type of bag in your car, they will smash your window to check whats inside.
- Never leave sheets, towels etc looking like they might be covering something. I know a friend who lost a digital camera wrapped up in a beanie stuffed into the corner of his car boot.
- Leave all glove boxes and consols open to show there is nothing in there. On days where car thieves have not pulled much of a loot they get desperate and will smash your window to check your glove box.
- Do not leave clothes hanging in the car, it shows your are going out somewhere afterwards or have just been out somewhere and thus you have a wallet and mobile in the car or on the beach.
- Any sign of a stereo with a face that could have been left in the car is justification for smashing your window. If you pull into the car park with your music blaring, you dont know who is listening. They know that you dont take your stereo face onto the water.
- A radar detector left in a car in any area of perth with get your window smashed.
- If you are lucky enough to drive a nice looking car, buy a crappy looking cheap car for kitesurfing trips, its not like you couldnt afford it. I nice car equates to expensive stealables inside the car.
- Do not put kitesurfing stickers on your car!!!!!! It automatically makes you a target where ever you park.
There are places and situations where EVERY car will have its window smashed and its contents gone through. I've seen upwards of 20 successive cars with their windows smashed at some concerts, beaches, dinner parties, parking lots... with no regard to make/model or contents. Some people avoid this risk by driving a crappy car and leaving the windows down.
Do not attempt to physically apprehend these guys unless you are willing to break your board on their head or you have a baseball bat or you are chuck norris, they ALL carry knives and wont hesitate to make a nice hole in you.
