Just wondering if anyone has tips on preventing bag zips from salting up and sticking?
I keep my bags in the car while kiting or in the brick and tile garage when stored but it still keeps happening. I like to look after my gear so find this really frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same thing a few years ago on a good board bag (wipika) that i didnt use for a few months, It needed some severe persuading to unzip for me! I was like a rabid dog frothing at the mouth trying to get it open and get on the water. I now use silicon spray on all my zips and have no probs, also occasionally i wash the board bags in fresh water, let them dry out and spray the zips.

Yeah, for cooking sticks apparently

+1 on the silicon spray to stop sticking.
I had to get the boiling water out once when the zip had jammed solid.. Did the trick.

vinegar

white vinegar in a spray bottle disolves the salt and frees the zip

I used silicone spray for years, but an old bloke put me onto candle wax.
Just rub it along the closed zip then open and close the zip a few times. Works a treat and no mess!

White vinegar...

Then Vaseline... Lubricates zips and permanently prevents corrosion.

WD40 is actually really based for removing moisture it is a temporary lubricant, but it will actually eat at plastic and is hydroscopic so will attract moisture. I believe it was developed to prevent rust on rockets by displacing water.....;)

Vaseline has petroleum in it so although it works great and reples water it will over time break the plastic down,  even silicon in a can has aerosol in it which burns melts plastic, so dry silicon or water based lubes are they way to go..... ;)

Not sure if I want any of that stuff near my canopy

Oops this is a kitesurfing forum my bad.....!

Old blokes are awesome eh!!!
I've tried all the sprays and the zips still stick. They stick because they are metal head zips and the salt water makes them corrode, that white stuff you see around the stuck zip head is corroded alloy not salt (although it is an oxide and may be a salt). Hot water and vinegar can help dissolve the oxide/salt.
Would never use vaseline thats going to make sand stick like crazy. Definitely trying candle wax or bees wax.
