sunur is the main meeting ground for kiter's in bali it seems.. lovely spot with freindly locals...Nelly is one local with the greatest heart.. you can hear him laughing a nd screeming on the water... i only got one good day of wind out of 2 weeks in june but still loved the spot...there is a great flat water lake south of sunur and holds more water then sunur on the low tides... sunur goes dry.. anyway all the best... catch ya

I just got back from there Tuesday night.. I had a long weekend there Fri - Tues got out 3 days in that time.. It's always light so take your biggest kite and a board at least 135 I'd say.. Like all those places tide is a factor and no water was more of a problem than no wind on 2 days.. If you catch a taxi to Sanur Beach Hotel and head to the right (south I think) side of the beach you will find the Blue Oasis Beach club. Lawn area for setting up etc and help launching landing... Whatever!! There is a membership fee but small change really..

AND>>> Take booties!!! Even if you hate them!! (like me) the bottom is nasty..

Say hi to Mario for me when you are there and Putu... AKA Nelly (you'll see why if you meet him at the night club, wears all the bling bling and has a band-aid under his eye for makeup)

I was there in late june/early july.
First day I got there, it felt at least 15-20knots. We were sitting on Kuta beach having lunch (where the wind is offshore), and the flags were suggesting a fairly strong wind. There may have been a bit of a tunneling effect through all the buildings, but from what we could tell, it was quite strong. I didn't get a chance to go out though cause we started drinking early.
The following days werent as strong but for me personally, I would have been set on a 13m and a twin tip. This is the best time for it apparently but to be honest, go there to surf not kite because it is too much of a hassle to have a half arsed session.
Having said that, Ill be taking my kites again when we go to bali and sumbawa next year!

I got 5 hours of kiting in at Sanur on the 16th July. Had a 15m slingshot and 132 FLX underground. Great wind, could have done with a couple more knots. It is very onshore so if not enough wind then you continually struggle to keep out. Blue Oasis at Sanur Beach hotel is the place to set up and launch. Nice lawn, palms to sit under, they will watch yer gear while you grab some Mee gorang for lunch at "Bobby's Cafe". They charge 50,000 rup, $8.00 Aud for this service it's but worth it. A metered taxi from Kuta costs about $35,000 rup. When you are finished, walk through the lobby of the hotel, kite gear and all and ask them to call you a meter taxi back to Kuta. If you don't insist on a meter taxi they will get one of theirs and then you gotta bata for your ride and usually pay more.

happy kiting

Thanks for all the replies folks, booked my flights over the WE, gonna be there in a couple of weeks. Think i'll take my 6.4 surfey , really need the practice, and 16 metre kite. Anyone know if the kitesurf store in Sanur rents boards, or do I have to take my TT as well???

Hey since we re on the topic of Bali does anyone know if there is a possibility of a kite in mid to late september and if anyone is going then, love to hear from ya.
I hear that the Javanese has taken over the fishing industry in jimbaran bay and is pirating the waters so that even the locals can't fish there. But thats not the worst of it I hear they are dynamite fishing and ruining the ocean floor and killing the reefs. Has any body else heard about this?

Hey Guys

I'm going to Bali next weekend too 20th so hope to hook up. All I've got is a new Toro 12m but looks ok for about 15 knots that time of year.
There for 2 weeks. My board is last years Stonker 147 so should be pretty good if I can get it on the aircraft.(might be a bit big to get on without paying extra) Maybe I should pack the boogie board instead for a bit more floatation (I expect boogie boards are popular in Bali-NOT?)

Keep an eye out for the red North Toro and Red stonker getting pounded in the surf.

Anyone know what Qantas allow as far as flying with kites and boards?

Was in Indo last 2 years November time, headed to Lombok and the Gili islands. It blew almost every day off Gili Meno, there was talk of setting up a kite school on Gili Trawangan the neighbouring island. The locals said it was windy most days particularly from July to October. I was sadly without my kites but there was a crew there form the uk having a ball, flat water, waves, beautiful islands and cheap.
