Just got in from a run Kawana to Caloundra.
At Warana around 39 Beach access I noticed a group fo 5 guys with Golf clubs standing on the beach in front of their girlfriends. I though ok cool they are having a little golf on the beach.
Then when I got withing 100 meters I noticed them all put their balls down and shape up to drive out to sea.
I then realized I was the target and saw 2 balls go within 10 ft of my head.
I was followed by 4 mates and they proceeded to do the same.

So if it happens again they might get a little surprise when we drop our kite and go and have a little chat to them.

So Kawana crew - be golfer aware - hope it doesnt happen again. A golf ball in the head would really spoil my day!

How can people be so stupid? Do they not realise the consequences of a golf ball to the head, unconscious kiter almost certainly to drown and at best a man slaughter charge?

By the time we got to the next set of flags - the beach was too crowded to go in

Funny how the police are patroling this beach mid week and no where to be seen on a busy Sunday on the school hols

in hindsight should have called the cops.

- quite a werid feeling seeing golf balls come at you directly - almost seemed like slow motion.

reminisant of the Jakarta - Pondok Indah Golf driving range - where you would drive over water - and guys would go out in dinghy's and motocross gear to collect balls - hours of fun for the golfers... off the beach at the unprotected is stupid though!

uncool.

dude on magnetic island made another dude a vegtable from a golf ball (accident)
worst thing was he hadn't paid his green fees and had let his membership lapse so he wasn't covered by liability insurance and was bankrupted by the compensation claim.

Golf balls can kill.
I'd report them to the 5-0.

Very uncool.
If they want to target practive, they should go to the driving range and try to hit the signs there.
Idiots!!!
Hope it doesn't happen again.

I saw a couple of tools doing the same at Rosebud (VIC) a few months ago. I don't think they were trying to hit a kiter but standing on a kite beach and driving golf balls out into the water right between all kiter
Accidents do happen and a golf ball can make a vegetable out of a guy - not sure what goes through their head.
I was out kiting and trying to stay out of their reach. There were plenty of people on the beach, not sure if someone had a chat to them.

some old fisho's were out in neck deep water trying to peg rocks at these kiters doing a downwinder, they gave way and went way out past the break to avoid the fisho's, but still didnt stop them trying to peg rocks at them.

Just when you think you've found the biggest idiot in the world, more come to contend.

That could very easily kill someone if they are struck in the head.

Makes me want to buy a helmet and some steel fins. [}:)]

The gene pool needs chlorinating.

I see my suggestion to inform the police and surf clubs has been red thumbed. I'm not even slightly surprised given the opinions some have voiced about police and the judicial systems on other threads. At the risk of having an opinion of my own, this 'sniveling hall monitor' thinks that if we do not support our law enforcement system it will struggle to do its job protecting us. I agree that it is very unlikely they would be able to do anything about this singular incident, but if they have a recorded complaint about it perhaps it will be one more straw on the camel's back when the police budgets and beats are decided by the 'higher powers'.

My two cents.

if it ever happens again, crash your kite in the water, intentional face plant, lie in the water and drift for a couple of minutes. If they run away they can live with the guilt of thinking they have killed a person. Then call the cops.

I would also have approached the press about it. Someone is likely to have known who they were and might have dobbed them in. Idiots should be charged with reckless endangerment
