If he's coming down the coast as far as Bundaberg, tell him to check out our local spot, Elliott Heads.

If he stops at Bowen, Front beach is EXCELLENT. Reliable wind (generally), shallow water and lots of space. Elliot heads (as mentioned) is also very suitable for learning for the same reasons ..... he could also try Conway Beach near Arlie Beach. If he wants any contacts get him to mail me

Aren't the stingers out in force this time of year? Or is that just a big story to keep the non-locals out of the water at the best time of year?

MIght be a bit of both I kited Bowen right through last summer and never saw one (not that you would anyway) but most of the locals wear wetties or stinger suits

Best to err on the safe side though and invest in a stinger suit .... about $100. Just make sure no one gets any pics of you

I don't think I've ever seen stingers at Elliott Heads. If they *were* here, they'd only be blue bottles anyway.

The recent rains in Cairns may have started flushing the juvenile box jellyfish out of the estuaries, so to be safe I would be lycra-ing up big time between now and May. Yorkey's knob is where everyone learns in Cairns, though there are a couple of other spots that are more than suitable as you make your way down the coast. PM me for specifics.

I'll be taking off in a couple of weeks to kite every beach I find between Cairns and Melbourne over the next 6-12 months, hopefully completing a bit of an archive on each spot with GPS co-ordinates, pictures and video. This is not for any commercial reason, but to put together a compendium of great spots. I'll be blogging along the way and will post links when the blog gets interesting enough.
