Hi All

I'm Jon from Kitepower and i'm in Queensland at the moment. I'm on your Sunshine Coast and this is just one more reason for me to stay in Australia and never return to the UK. The weather, food, countryside and people are great but where's the wind?

Its forcast for a northerly on Saturday i'm in Caloundra at the mo, a Sweedish (blonde) kitesurfer and her boyfriend said Rainbow beach would be good, any one there? Be good to meet up with some locals if there are any.

Also i'm mow on a big trek up to Cairns and back down for the next 3 weeks. I do have the new Ozone Instincts with me but my main goals for this trip are to:

Fly as many different kites with as many different people as possible.

Try for my personal best in the buggy (need over 72.4k inthe bug) I think the QLD beaches are going to be much better buggy sites than NSW. And I Just want to see if you have any beaches as good as in the UK!

Kitesurf on flat water. I've only just started on the water and want to have a go on some flat water like on the vids.

Hit a cane toad with a golf club....

If any of you can help me with any of the above email me at
jon (@) kitepower.com.au

I'm just trying to put my schedule together so i'll le you know when i'm where.

If you really want to try for a speed record try Goowa in South Australia. Miles of beach packed hard by 4 wheel drive ...wind comes uniterupted from the Artic and not crowded. Buggy heaven

If it's windy and SE or E when you get up this way, drop in to Elliott Heads on your way past. Perfect spot if you want to kite flat water. Give me a shout if you do....I'm always up for an excuse to knock off work early and head to the beach

EDIT: The locals you're likely to meet at Rainbow Beach are the kind with fins and large teeth.....lots of them around there

Hervey Bay works on anything from NW to SE. There's a couple of places you can go on a Northerly, depending on tides. BOM says low tide is 12:30 on Saturday.

If it's windy enough by then, you can go to a place near the Urangan Pier, called Quota Park (referred to as 'The Dome' by the locals, because there used to be a dome shaped picnic shelter there). Just watch out for the razor shells!

If it's not windy until later on (and it's not too NW), Tooan Tooan Creek (near the seafront oval in Pialba) is about your only other option. There's no beach left anywhere else on an incoming/high tide.

Another option you might consider if you have to wait until later on is a place called Toogoom. It's about 20kms from Hervey Bay, along the Burrum Heads road. I've had some of my best N sessions there. No good at low tide unless you don't mind walking the km or so out to the water. If you wait until the tide has come in a bit, it's great. Hardly anyone kites there though, plus there's lots of stingrays.

Sunshine Coast sucks... I recommend Gold Coast Also the long range northerly forecasts never happen . Maybe your optimism will make it happen this time Dustin? Hows skeggs going with his new 17m Machine?

So i'm in Bundeburg at the momment doing what every good man should do when in Bundi.

I'll be in Mackay on Saturday and the forcast is good. I'll let you know nearer to the time what the finer details are.

I will be on Conway beach by the Whitsundays on Sunday the 6th. Mostly land kiting so if you want to have a bash at buggying or landboarding come down. I'll be there all day.

I'm off for a rum and ginger beer......

I have to agree Alva Beach is excellent. There are big flat water lagoons and out front a decent wave. I was there a couple of weeks ago it was 20 knts and there were only 3 of us out. Score
