I've done it firm west coast to east coast - just buy some tough garbo bags and a roll of packing tape form the post office (total spend so far Approx $5.00), Pack, Wrap well usins as much tape as possiable to suck most of the air out (like those vac paking bags you used to see on TV - take it back to the post office and best cost City - to - City is under $30.00

I sent a 10.5mtr and cost 26bucks inc bar, lines and pump.

or send it COD - cost you nothing in postage at the time of sending it - also GNT you payment for the kite

Time frame - about 5 working days usually

aus post, pack it tight and get a few quotes... prices tend to vary greatly depending whether post ofice is a franchise or a mail centre depot (usually cheaper)..

sent a few from east coast to west coast via depot and was only like thirty bucks, just recently sent one to qld via franchise and it cost me fifty!

aust post seems to be the best,i posted one to wa cost $35 inc.$1000 insurance cover,just a hint, always keep the box your kite comes in, they are sized for the cheapest postage possible.

I recently had a kite sent to me from Sydney to Melbourne, my mate had the kite dropped off to him, then the next day he put it on his work courier account, i had it the next day, free! was tres awesome
So i guess that would be the best way to do it.

Hmm good idea-I wonder of that works internationally-want to send some stuff to Indo.

Warning,

be careful with Oz Post as they still loose 1% of their parcels each year, and your kite could be this 1%, suggest you make sure to take out the insurance option when you send as this saved me being out of pocket last time they lost one of my kites.

I agree with most that has been said.
From recent experience, I sent two kites by Aus Post. They both were packed in boxes with pumps etc. One was slightly bigger than the other and weighed approximately the same.
The larger box with insurance sent Sydney to Brisbane cost $50.00.
The smaller one with insurance going to Melbourne cost $35.00.
When I queried the price difference the answer was the larger dimensions of the box, (which would have only been a few centremetres longer.)
The inurance is relatively cheap, $11.70 for $1,000, so approx 1% of the value.
Both were categorised Regular Parcel over 500g.
So the smaller the dimensions or irregular packaged shape (within reason) will save you some money.

Better still - write your address on the front and where it needs to go as the sender - jam it in a post box

The post office will see not enough postage (or no postage) and return to sender

And Presto - no cost postage.........
