The Georges River sailing Club is having their season opener skiff regatta this Sunday. The race will start around 2.30pm, boats will be in the area of the river mouth around this time, please be aware that these skiffs cannot take evasive action quickly when running downwind with their spinnaker up. Remember too that these people are passionate about their skiff racing have a right to use the waterway and a NSW Maritime Aquatic Licence to hold their race, please keep clear of the yachts, do not force right of way issues with them - give way at all times.
A good mate sails skiffs, and I intend to go and meet the sailing committee at the clubs and get their rosters for summer so that I can post these warnings, prior to any races in the rivermouth.
People need to be very wary of doing tricks in the rivermouth, there is a lot of boat traffic over summer.
Riding over at Towra in a NE is a much better idea. Our boat will be on hand for rescues, but everyone needs to take responsibility for their actions.
If a line gets snagged on a passing boat, you better have a quick release and know how to use it! People with handle pass leashes are especially at risk if the release is behind their back and they are being pulled backwards under water at speed by a boat!!
Gusty Southerly today, but it has a lot of west in it right now at 8am.
Nippers is back at Wanda on Sunday as well. Head further North and give them plenty of room between 9.30 and 11.30. All the Mums and Dads sit down and watch so dont get too close. Cheers
