True story:

Came into beach today to land kite in maxed out 30 - 35 knots (saw an opportunity for an assisted landing, there was a guy rigging up on an otherwise almost empty Muriwai Beach).

So I have to navigate a group of 20 or so Chinese tourists who decide that as I am landing it is appropriate to start grabbing at my bar while I am trying to control my kite. Karate chopped the ** out of 3 of them which felt kind of like some reverse Bruce Lee malarkey.

Then once landed they all decided to try and get pics with my kite by putting a foot up on it as it was parked on the beach, like you do with an elephant you have just shot or something. Cue me to start screaming at them again, and getting ready for some more kung fu.

It ended with me demanding $10 for a photo as I saw the opportunity to make some money out of these fools. Nobody paid me.

Just saying, watch your kites when around a hoard of Asians, they get pretty grabby on the bar, and be prepared to punch them in the throat if they don't seem to get the message.

That is all.

I am a little disappointed in your reaction to our valued guests
A more appropriate response would be to lend one of them a harness hook them up and hot launch the f**ker while the remaining cohort look on with cameras at the ready.
Now that's.........entertainment

Dang it, that would have been perfect actually!

I hate when you walk away from a fight and think of a really cool thing you should have done....
Ah well, such is life I suppose

Stand back when asking for help - asked a bloke on the beach if he would help me landing my kite. Expected 'yes, what would you like me to do?'
Instead the bloke said 'sure' then walked a step and grabbed my bar sending my kite straight into power zone! I never tried a megaloop but at that moment experienced the feeling - got catapulted several meters horizontally (luckily face planted in the sand). True story :-)

Or even give them the bar and pull the quick release and walk away like an action hero

Yep, learning in 2002, similar thing happened. I was still learning about kites and Kite's were still newish in Perth. I was doing the walk of shame back from Trigg to scarbs. I was trying to work out self landing. A fella came up, sounded like he knew what he was talking about, grabbed the bar and sh$t went bad (not too bad, just looped and dragged for a bit).

He then said, "I've never seen one of these things before" and he walked off.

Lesson learned. I always try to be self sufficient and if I need to ask for help, I have a polite but thorough line of questioning before engaging in an assisted launch/landing.

Best post in ages. More posts should reference kung fu. It just makes the story better. Good luck with your martial arts.
