Anybody use a bike and trailer combo to carry themselves and their kite gear to and fro the beach?

Was thinking of getting an old BMX, attaching a small trailer(the ones you normally see kids getting dragged around in behind mum and dad) big enough to carry my kite gear.

Anybody done this? now how to do it on the cheap?

You could buy a board rack for the side of the bike. Carver surf racks make one (carverracks.com) and the guys who distribute them in Oz are www.charlespurtonimports.com.au/. They retail around the $140 mark which may be cheaper than a trailer and you can put the kite on your back.

Yep works a treat at rotto. The bigger ones have room for 2 kites and all the gear etc You really feel the burn up the hills after a 3 hr sesh I can tell you!

I thought about it for home as I live 3kms from the beach. I reckon though, having a tub or similar with all your gear on the beach might be a bit too tempting to for some light-fingered folks. Not very safe from scurvy thiefs?

I use a bike trailer.
I've got the Bob Yak trailer, a one wheel trailer that can go fast, actually corners well, but a 2 wheel kiddies trailer is probably better for slow trips to the beach.
Keep an eye out for second hand bike trailers, eBay, garage sales etc, or if you're handy, why not DIY. A golf trolley might work.
I'd suggest a bike with gears instead of a BMX, it's surprising how heavy all your kite stuff can be, especially on the way back home.

LOL, i will only use <insert kite brand currently being slagged> so i know the thieves won't steal them.

Seriously though, i'll just take what i need to kite and lock old crappy bike and trailer to a lamppost with empty tub and skanky undies.

Definately go a bike with gears. The way you end up strapping your board in is usually flat to the wind so a bit of an anchor in a head wind.

Scungy old reggies will deter all but the most craven of desperados Or you could put ******** brand kite in there too for the same affect
