read this dudes ad, he reckons his kited with this 7m rebel in 55knots and it was "ok to handle".

that more impressive than "100% depower" and "bombproof".

Yep they are awesome kites. I would like to know where he found that much wind as I am skunked for it at the moment.

An elephant could probably kite on a 7m in 45-55kn (considering gusts would be like 40% higher, whats that about 70kn or so?)

You could probably plane just flying your bar

(please note these figures are made-up and from a non-kiter, but how many times a year does it blow 45+? Once?)

you could use your board as your kite and still get monster hangtime.

i have been caught in a 55 knot squall sailing a catamaran once, and it was one of the scariest times of my life.
there is no way you could hold a 7 down in that sort of wind

It is a definite stretch of the truth and imagination. 45 knots and the top blows of the water (white out) and I would be ejecting right at that moment.

Have look at the question & answer on the ebay listing....

Q: 55Knots, sure you didnt mean km/h. Sounds incredibly unrealistic / complete load of bs 12-Nov-08
A: lol thanks for the relpy where u kite? and yep ive been out a couple of times in supper strong winds on this kite and now ive got myself a new 5m for high winds

Does that mean the new 5m is for when it is over 55knots

Unless this guy kites behind a 747, i doubt very much that hes been out "a couple of times" in 55knts.

If you live in Wellington stupid crazy wind is a fact of life. Way back when I was a little guy I sailed on Evans bay in a Seat Scout cutter (Think 6 oar lifeboat with a sail) and we sailed it THROUGH the water, not on it... That said, you have trouble walking in a straight line, let alone flying a kite in 55 knots!

Anyone else who has lived in Wellington will know exactly what I mean ow.

Kiteboarders always overstate wind.

If another kiter tells me how windy it is in knots, as a rule I always guess its about 1/2 of what they say. The only exception is when the kiter is an X windsurfer (or still windsurfs).

I have been at the beach when it was 45+knts in whyalla windsurfers were getting smashed up on the rocks a kiter ended up ejecting the kite over the marina and two of the local boys were out in it on 9m bandits droped 2 knots it took 2 guys to hold down the kite and two on the guy was insane, almost no blue water sand was blowing that hard down the beach when it hit the wall it was going 2-3m straight up i had my drivers side window in my car only one inch down and after 1hr my car was full of sand so i think that 50kts on a 7m could be posible.

Haha.
Just like the economy, seems the beaufort scale is subject to inflationary pressures!

And on the sale on ebay note. Who would want to buy a kite that has been flogged in excess winds (even if they weren't quite 55kn), let alone the figures he quotes

I was in Hurghada a few years ago (2005) and got hit by a 65 knot gust whilst out on a 8m Naish Torch...... the quickest release of safety for sure.

65 konts.... Yea right!!!! In a gust like that, by the time you hit your safety you would be soaring well above eric.
