Anyone got any reliable data of kite sales? Just interested to see which brands are most popular world wide.

From my observation in Sydney:

1. Cabrinha
2. Slingshot
3. Best
4. Naish/Ozone

That is just a pure guess from what I see in the Botany Bay area. I did hear somewhere (possibly from a Best representative though) that the Waroo was the best selling bow kite of 2007.

Worldwide I think its Cabrinha, then followed by Best, then North/Slingshot/F-One/Naish/Ozone/and all the rest in any order you wish to put them, because I don't think anyone really knows or is going to spill the beans.

I think cabrinha/best hold at least 30-40% of the worldwide market between them.

Around Sydney there are definitely more new North kites than new Naish, IMO.

If you're from Narrabeen, Griffin kites are No1.

Kangaroo Kites if you are in Malaga. It really depends on the regions..

Overall-
I reckon Cabrinha, North, Naish and Best. The first 3 came from Windsurfing.

Am i wrong that Carbhina had a Neilpryde background?

Cabrinha is owned by Neil Pryde and Shriro Group (Chinese, based in Hong Kong) owns Neil Pryde or at least a substantial stake.

Every beach I been to has different concentration of brands. I believe that is highly dependent on the brands the local shop pushes. I certainly havent noticed Cabrinha as the most popular brand in all the countries/beaches I been to.

The facts and figures people put up here must be from shops who sell those brands and want to make their brands look good. Until I see proof (which I doubt I will as they would be classed as confidential information) I wouldnt give these claims any creditbility.

Last year I was told by a Best rep that Best is the biggest brand in the world and has over 50% of the market. Today Best accounts for no more than 5% at our local beach here in Sydney. So who is telling porkies?
