I have had it up to here (holds hand above high head) with poorly designed Kite bags!!
And I propose we here at seabreeze start a revolution to correct the great injustices bestowed apon us by kite manufacturers...
By the end of this thread hopefully our collectivly brilliant minds will have designed the perfect kite bag and maybe, just maybe, a manufactrer will take our wonderfull ideas on board.

So, everyone please list the following;
*Kite bag necessities
*previous kite bag designes that have pissed you off
and most importantly
*your solutions to this worldwide epidemic.

obviously it needs to be big enough to fit your kite in after it has been removed and inflated for the 1st time...... yes I have deflated after use!

*the bag must be extendable AND there must be handles positioned so that the bag balances when extended!
*the bag must have two zips (for when one of them seizes)
*two seperate pockets must be provided for the pump and the bar.
*The bloody kite has to fit in it (DUH!! you would think that would be obvious)
*backpack style is the only option (sligshot, glad to see you have learnt that one)
*the bag must not hang so low it bangs against your knees (thanks north)
*and the shoulder straps must be bloody comfortable (refer to latest Flexifoil)

Please, everone, continue...

Kite bags, or gear bags?

The solution as far as I am concerned is just buying a big bag and lugging your gear around in that.

That said, the new takoon bag is the best I've seen, but I don't know many people who would fork out cash for a kitebag when most kites should come with a decent one anyway.

thats my point, if your buying a kite you would want to get a decent kite bag with it aswell. And the bags have a all this fancy stuff already (except maybe the beer cooler and the wind meter we can only dream), they just need to make it work!

I'm yet to see a single bag that does...IS IT REALLY THAT HARD???

sorry, I'm tired and emotional, the wind din't pick up enough today so I had a ****ty session working the kite going nowhere, and then the kite didn't fit in the bag and then it banged against my knees on the trip up the hill and the pump and bar didn't want to fit and oh life is just too hard, i can't go on...

I'd like an extra big pocket, reinforced of course so i could carry large slabs of concrete with me to the beach.

Yeh, a big robust pocket for tools to cut the slabs of concrete.

Make the bag simple and a "day bag," 4 pockets one strap.

1. Large mesh bag for kite(s). Zips both ends.

2. Small mesh bag inside big kite bag for bar.

3. 4 liter robust water/sand proof bag for tools, tape...

4. Small water/sand proof bag for personals like gum, keys....

One big comfortable strap so you can sling it over your sholder with the bag always balancing perfectly. Thus, the pockets need to be centered.

Good idea sandman, the wind will come again

besides the cheap material Best use for their bags, the size, and the backpack style are great.

pump on one side, lines on the other - very handy

My old bag had mesh and it used to leave a pile of sand wherever I left it. My new one (hypertype) is sealed so now I can bring it inside with me, even tuck it up next to me in bed when it gets too lonely.

Since the kite is one pump so there's no use in having extensions.

I think when I bought it the kite and pump were both inside the bag but I've never managed to fit them back since I took it out the first time. I use the external straps to attach the pump on the back now.

* No zips, period. There's no place for a zip on something that gets exposed to salt and water! Drawstring openings and velcro closed pockets please.
* The opening should be large enough to *easily* allow a hastily rolled/folded kite to enter, without having to squash/stuff/jiggle the thing in there for 10 minutes.
* The bag should extend to accommodate the full 'strut inflated' length of the kite *and* the opening should allow the LE to be accommodated without the aforementioned squashing/stuffing/jiggling.
* 2 straps please! I wanna be able to carry mine like a backpack, instead of this fkng annoying single strap arrangement.
* Pockets and/or straps to attach the bar *and* pump to the outside of the bag for that long walk up the beach.

My original Airush Lift (2004) bags sucked the big one. Zips, which seized. Tops of the bags came unstitched and the opening *and* bag was so small you could only fit the kites in if you folded them a single specific way. I returned them and got Flow bags.....million percent improvement. Drawstring openings, velcro enclosed pockets and *loads* of room in the bag. They've also got straps out the outside to attach the bar and the pump. Only thing I don't like is the single strap.

My Best bags have drawstring openings, but the bags *and* openings are too small, have zippered pockets and a single strap.

Maybe we could burn old kite bags as instead of coal, employ the large proportion of poverty strcken to make our new kite bags and use the huge profit margin gained as the world embraces our brilliant kitebag to fund Cancer and Aids research.
As for the war mongers, i rekon they want to start kiting but haven't been able to justify spending the dollars with such bad bags, and instead shoot each other through the sheer frustration of it all.

it's a win-win...

I reckon the bag that came with my new North Rebel 12m is the best that I have ever seen and used. Everything including pump, wetsuit, towel, water bottle fits in with room to spare. Hint- if anybody is interested, once kite is folded up spanwise, ie about 7 foot by 2 foot flat on beach, slide front of kite front first into bag and then carefully fold from training edge towards front but only by one third.Watch out for the small battens and then fold over itself again and push this into bag. The advantage of this is the bag holds the kite together if its windy and you can make a real neat job of it, therefore looking after your pride and joy,

so far, to sum up the worlds best kite bag will have...

tonnes of room to fit a wet, sandy kite that has been poorly rolled up by tired numb hands

backpack style carry straps

3 external pockets, all without mesh, closeable by velcro for pump, bar and tools

1 small water resistant internal pocket (velcro) for keys etc

drawstring opening to slide kite through easily (maybe an extendable section here to open up the top more like a funnel)

no mesh, so sand doesn't fall off kite when dry and work it's way out into car.

extendability, for us lazy sods (even with 1 pump) that still has no mesh and is actually long enough (refer to point 1 on sizing)

finally a personal addition, 2 external straps that can be drawn tight to compress the bag after the kite is in it.

can I get confirmation on points discussed at this weeks meeting and prototypes will be draw up within the fortnight for analysis by the board of kiteboarders.

Don't forget the small cooler bag that holds 3 Cans. It would be really easy to build in and if done right would be flat when not in use so it wouldn't take up any valuable kite space. One good thing about a bag that has mesh on the top and bottom is you can put a slab in the bag and put it in the water to keep it cool. Don't forget to tie the bag on to something though.
