G"day guys, went to the shop today looking at getting my first board and just have some questions about the board materials, in particular the core.
The vast majority of new boards seem to have a wood core, but is there really that much difference between that and the foam core?
All i can guess is that wood has a better 'pop', other than that i've got no idea.

Id say go wood core, i just snapped my foam core board (only 18 months old), wood is stronger

From our testing wood is much stronger and has better damping so gives a smoother ride. Foam compared feels very chattery in chop.

I snapped a foam core board, wasn,t doing anything stupid, quite a light day. Still can't belive how easily it broke, manufacturer didn't want to know about it as it was just out of warranty by about three months[}:)]. Wood core is much stronger, but a little heavier

Not that i would know but for what its worth.
Apparently wood has what they have labelled as a memory i.e. it goes back to its original shape better than other materials like foam.
Could also be a wives tale i heard.

^^^^ Believe it or not wood can actually stretch - i.e. the fibres can move relative to each other and so it can lose its memory. It just does it very slowly and it requires a very large load.
Have said that - wood is probably best. For its weight it's one of the strongest materials around.
