I'm using a Slingshot Misfit 2013 136cm which I got second hand. I love the board, I have lots of control and fun with it.

However I get an awful lot of spray from that board in the choppy conditions of Botany Bay. Despite wearing sailing sunnies, the water manages to get in and make my eyes all red I have a 2011 misfit in 142cm and no spray on that one.

So my question is, are there some adjustments to the board (move pads?) or my technique I can do to reduce the spray ? I am surprised to get so much spray from a reputed board... Must point out that the fins are very worn out but not sure it matters. I'm 78Kgs btw.

Any tips welcome otherwise I'll have to demo a few new boards

Move the straps to the closest position to the centre of the board , it moves your front foot back from the front of the board and allows you to twist your body so that your facing in direction of travel and not square to it and in turn puts more pressure on your back foot which raises the front tip of the board

Thanks I will try this. They are currently in the middle position. I worry though that it will make body twist harder as the pads do not angle outwards much even at the biggest angle setting. Plus I have long legs at 1m84... Guess I'll trial and error

From my experience spray increases with
smaller board
less rocker
wider ends
less flex

so boards that go upwind well give me more spray.
shinn monk, airush protoy give little spray and still go upwind well

centred stance from toe to heel IMHO is the biggest influence in boards with spray. Almost everytime I have a customer comment they have the bindings set so that the heel is near on the rail. This does not help with edging but creates spray in the eyes.
We have also put undercuts on our footpads to help deflect any spray downwards rather than up.

I partially disagree - narrower tips and rounded outlines increase spray. My Flydoor is almost square and there's zero spray - same with the Flyradical I had. If the edge enters the water ahead of your heel line, you get spray, well, I do anyway...

The spray seems to come off the edge where it enters the water, and the narrower tips send it straight into my legs. One board I rode was so bad, it was a near constant stream that went into my leg and up my face. Expect some spray with chop, but that was non-stop!

The shinn boards are renowned for their zero spray, as for shape the supershinn is a much narrower outline but still gives zero spray, IMHO you shouldn't be reliant on a footpads design to eliminate spray, Adrian however makes a quality product I rode both boards tonight in chop , flatwater, surf, and slop, for me the is nothing more annoying than having spray, I've been on the shinns since 2010 and Havnt rode a board with the same feel

I put the pads closer to the centre of the board and it has improved the spray a lot more but not totally thanks guys
