Do board widths of a few cm's make a big difference to early planning?

I have always rode boards that were 40cm to 41cm wide and recently had the board replaced which was only 37cm wide. Really struggling to get up and go around the 15 knot mark when normally I would be off and having a ball on the wider board.

i have done the same , i went from a 39 cm down to 34 cm. and i seem to have lost a lot of ability to cut upwind as i used to ..i can still hold a good cutting line ,but the advantage is i can carve all over the place and better control in higher winds.

On losing upwind ability, try edging harder (even try move feet further down near edge) or put bigger fins on. We have all sizes of fins in stock if you need to get hold of some.
