Hey there everyone.
Just wondering who/ if anyone has done night kiteboarding.
What are some things to look out for? What are some things to avoid?
Any opinions or thoughts would be great.

The only thing to be wary of is there are big fishes with big teeth like to come out and feed more at night than day . Or yer watch out for boat moorings they can fregen hurt , running into one of them flat out not only frightens the s**t out of ya , but if someone is watching will have the best laugh of there life .

It's good fun in the right place and conditions. And don't worry about a light or glow-stick on your kite, if you don't know where it is without looking at it you should probably be back on the beach.

Haha big bitey things ay.
I reckon if I spotted one of those I'd be running across the water quicker then I could kite.
Do u ever have any trouble with finding your board?

Just kite in the pond on a high tide . There are lights there so no need for any glow sticks and the shark net there should keep the nasties away

Try hanging a glow stick each side of your kite different color left and right. helps you see where it is and which way its pointing.

Did this nite kite buggying on Lake Lefroy WA

Or attach a high intensity beam to your kite line so the kite is always illuminated looks like a UFO on the salt lake, grate for spectators.

It's worth doing once for the experience. Or, when you're desperate...

Try boosting, bizarre never quite knowing when you'd going to land.

definitely a +1 for the different colour lights on each wing tip.

we kited with 5 people at the same time on a stretch of ocean that was shallow. Very cool jumping at night, such a buzz even if you dont go high haha

Its great to try it if you know where your kite is at without looking at it, and at a place where you feel comfortable though, and make sure you dont go with too many people, getting tangled (minimised visibility) is not something you wanna experience at night in the ocean me thinks.

Also, we had a strip of battery operated chrissy lights on the beach when we did it, just so you have a good idea about staying up wind etc ( where we were was an island in the middle of a gulf so no city lights available, and as it was a small island we didnt wanna go past a certain point), but doing it when there is a full moon is handy too.

either way have fun! I loved it, was a great experience

for some shots of our night kite experience (with long shutter times so you can actually see us kite) check out www.flickr.com/photos/mwindley/sets/72157638742939613/ my mate maurice windley is an awesome photographer

A must do. We found it best to not have any light source at all (a small fire on the beach is ok if you can). Your eyes adjust very well on everything but a cloudy new moon's night. Kites with predominately black colour silhouette better in the sky than light colours. With no lights the risk of losing your board is high so be prepared.
