It depends on the board mate, most these days are generally OK but you'll need to let us know what board you're riding first.

If it has flex, a PVC or similar material on the base, and you've taken the fins out it should be fine.

Thinking about BliBli with a 2014 50/fifty.

I took my Naish Dub to the cable and it survived it but you will wear through the base pretty quickly. The board will also be very 'sticky' on features which makes it quite hard to keep your balance sometimes. I recommend taking a candle and wax it...you heard right, wax it!!
Bottom line is, it will work but you will destroy your board if you keep doing it for a while. That said, if you ride over sand, shells, rocks it will scratch your board a lot more than on slick features.
One more thing, please don't ride straps at the cable!! 1 you risk breaking your ankle and hurt your knees and 2 YOU WILL LOOK LIKE A KOOK

If you're not worried about scratching the hell out of you gear and don't mind flogging out your ankles take the kiteboard.
Otherwise get a cheap wakey off gumtree and trash it :p

how do you hurt your ankles anymore wake boarding in straps than you would kiting? I find you can actually hurt them more kiting because you don't stop getting pulled after you crash (if one foot comes out)

I actually snapped my ankle doing a back roll in bindings at cable ski. Had I been using my kiteboard with straps, no way it would of happened

Yea, just ask the cable operators if they want all their riders to use straps instead of bindings...just for a good laugh
I never said you can't injure yourself in bindings but it sure as hell is safer on the cable than using straps. If you want it to be safer just stay home.

Sure everybody has a story injuring themselves in bindings or in straps...there are pro's and con's to both and everybody has their preference so just ride what you are comfortable with.
What you can't argue with though is that boots give you ankle support and straps don't which is one of the reasons wakeboards are used with bindings. The main reason most kiters are still riding straps is that it's hard to get in and out of boots while your kite is up (they are also bloody expensive and break quickly) so:

Wakeboarding: ride boots
Kiteboarding: ride boots
