Different tools for different purposes, unless u ride in the same conditions at the same spot all the time you probably need both

I.e super gusty or 30kts or above I prefer straps - less hassle, safer and generally so choppy u lose the benefit of boots

Otherwise I ride the boots

I've heard the Cabrinha backless bindings are the best out there for wakestylers...

I think Andy missed the point on boots.
Greater edge control, feels waaayy better when you stomp a trick in boots, slows rotation and can make tricks look steezy because of this.

Cab backless bindings are close to the best straps going around by the way

maybe you should watch it again.

As Andy said its much easier to learn new tricks and progress in straps and you can ask any of the top riders and they will tell you the same thing. They all started in straps and some top guys still ride straps.

Few pros and cons i have found:

+ Straps: you can ride faster, less drag and easier take off, better pop in lighter winds, less injury risk learning new tricks as you can bail, more windrange and easier riding in choppy conditions, easier upwind, much easier relaunch, better on your knees

+ Boots:
can load up board more, holds more power, no feet slipping out on take off or landings, better on you ankles, better connection to board, better pop in flatwater

Think the only one I agree with here is that there is less risk when learning, not because you can bail, but because the board will pull off your feel if you trip a rail.

If you catch a rail the thing that hurts is your head right? I Don't get dudes who don't use a helmet when learning new tricks.

I can stay out longer with a helmet on because it the helmet breaks the water surface instead of my face. Works for me.
