A little hint of summer down on the bay today, lots of new racing gear on show, and a nice seabreeze to go with it!

Lots of training going on to take out the prizes put forward by Kitepower!

Remember, if your just wanting to have a go on a twin-tip, have all the gear and no idea, or see yourself as a pro, be sure to come down and be part of the action!

Morning Everyone

One day to go to our race series 1st event and the combined NSWKBA season opener. Just wanted to send a final Message to inform competitors of a few key issues that will help the day go smoothly for you and the organising crew. There will be a Cabrinha tent on the beach, thats Race HQ, all information about the racing will be posted there, the skippers meeting will be held there.
Race board/directional competitors, you will need a race timer. We have a couple for Ronstan models for sale at Kitepower (more will be available) and they can also be purchased from Whitworths, Bias Boating, and any decent yacht chandler. We will be displaying the signal flags we will be using to start the race and to communicate decisions affecting racing at the Race HQ tent.

The organising crew are
Steve McCormack - event organiser
Eveline Reijken- Boss of the beach and volunteer coordinator
Tim Kolloff - Back up jet ski rider/rescue
Graeme Snowdon - BBQ and NSWKBA memberships (assisted by NSWKBA committee)
Adrian Know - Start Boat and assistant starter
Phil Yeomans - Race Director and starter
Col Packer - useless 2868

If you have not already pre registered, bring the correct change in cash, no eftpos or credit card facilities are available at the event. Cost is $20 per race or $90 if you pay for the complete race series.
If you have a water/drink container, bring it, we are wanting to minimise waste, bulk filtered water will be available.
Numbered red rash vests are for use on the day, they are not to be kept and must be returned to the tub in the Cabrinha tent on the beach after the end of the day. If you have more than 50 competitors, we will need rashies to be returned between races, thanks for your co-operation on this.
If you have not ridden a race board before, do not enter the race board/directional class. If you are very new to race boards and cannot tack consistently, consider the other more experienced racers and keep well clear of them at the starting line.
We have Phil Yeomans on the race team, Phil is the guy that starts the Sydney to Hobart and he is a senior yacht race official with Yachting Australia certification. Phil will be the race director, what he says at the skippers meeting at 12.30 will be the law. No protests are allowed, but Phil will be keeping a close eye on the race and I'll be sent via the jet ski to inform any competitors of any rule infringements.

Thats it for now, the forecast is for WSW in the morning tending SE and increasing to around 15-18 knots in the afternoon. The temp is meant to be 29 and bright sunny day so we could see this turn into an Easterly with a little North in it. The course orientation may change if the wind turns East, which will be one of the reasons for a delayed start tomorrow. We intend to have at least 4 race board/directional heats and at least 4 twin tip heats too if condition and time allow. Last possible race start will be 6pm, the jest ski must be off the water by sunset which is approx 7.15 tomorrow.

Volunteers to stay back and help pack up and return equipment to Kitepower will be greatly appreciated. Remember they who have the most fun are the winners!

Cya and

Goodwinds

Results from round one.

Huge thank you to all the volunteers, including Graeme and Ian on the BBQ, Col on rego, Eve on assisting Phil with starting and scoring, Adrian Knox, all the NSWKBA committee who turned up and helped out, my son Peace for coming down to help pack up even though it was his day off, Tim Kolloff with the jetski, Frank for video and photos, and Tracy Black as well as several others for photos too, if I missed anyone thank you too!

Wind for the first race was more in the 2025 knots range, but by the second one it was gusting over 25, and then in the TT class it was a solid 22-25 as well, with gusts into the 30's, so we had to pull the pin after completing 2 races in each class.

There was only one tangle that required the jetski to assist, one other one and the 2 more experienced race board riders just swam though and sorted out the tangle.

Seriously consider water starting TT's at the next round, as I think its better practice for those wanting to move up to race boards and its a safer option when we have more than a dozen TT entries.

Can't agree more, here is my view:
- I felt it wasn't safe due to the narrow beach and the wall just downwind of racers + kites were touching each other in the gusty air for the 5 minutes prior to the start, I really think it's dangerous doing a beach start with that many kites gathered on such a small area and such obstacles around
- with a beach start, having the best start isn't about skills, it takes away a part of the fun
- beach finish: when racers arrive full speed toward the beach and they are close to each other + there is that wall less than a line length from the water... well it's risky!

:)

thanks again!
