My truck was broken into this arvo @ Brighton 5 mins before I got to the car @ 3:15pm! He only took my wallet and 2 week old O2 XdaII mini PDA/mobile phone - all out of sight in my Camelback (which I later found dumped behind the SSLSC). He broke in by jimmying the passenger side door lock right in front of some Japanese tourists who thought he owned my 4WD. They described him as 30-40, dark-brownish shoulder length hair wearing a blue scarf. My daughter rang me @ 3:25pm to see if was picking her up from school, the prick answered and said I was still out on the water! She said she thought he said his name was Peter and that he spoke with a possible Euro accent.

The cops said that quite a few cars have been hit in the last two weeks @ Scarbs beach carparks. When I went to cancel the credit cards 2 hours later they had already racked up almost $3K @ Innaloo! The first transaction was a cab from Scarbs - hopefully the cab can get a security mugshot of the bastard.

Sorry dude that sucks!
It sounds like you get a hell of a lot of break in's over there, there's always a WA break-in thread on Seabreeze.

Here in Brisbane, particularly at Brighton which is a safe, sleepy family type suburb, half the guys don't even lock their cars when they go out and leave kites (in bags) and gear sitting out at the beach all day. I don't think there's been a single theft yet! In Port Douglas we used to leave our kit on the beach, go home for lunch, come back an hour later and go out again!

Ian, I am so sorry to hear that.

Below is my action with regard to the outrage I feel. When will this finally stop?

Anyone so inclined, please feel free to cut and paste my email to the Mayor of Stirling.

His Worship the Mayor,

As a ratepayer and beach user I would like to express my concern regarding the numerous car break-ins that seem to be all too frequent at WA beach parking lots.

What is going on sir?

There is major problem here in Perth and it would be nice if there was a plan to safeguard these beach access parking lots. The government spends plenty of money on speed cameras, and other nonsense such as today’s announcement of spending millions to prop up our horse racing industry….who crapped in these people’s brains?

My dear mayor, how about putting some “big brother” cameras at the most popular beach parking lots, or perhaps have some cops patrolling these “target areas?” Everyone in WA would certainly feel properly served if the police would get out from hiding behind walls and trees taking our photos, and catch some real criminals.

Sincerely,

Nick Streuli

PS No I have not copped a speeding fine lately. However, once again a person whom I know and respect has been robbed at our beaches.

Hope all your data is safe.

I was parked just near you just before it happened, I always have a look around the carpark, but unfortunately didn't see anyone suspicious.

To make it worse it looked like a **** session:-(

While I sympathise with those that are robbed(It surely sucks!!)there is no real point in blaming the mayor or the Police.

The police always say DONT LEAVE VALUABLES in your car !

As for labeling speed camera spending as "nonsense", that won't wash !

Which is worse,a maniac in a huge 4 WD speeding and smashing into a car filled with kids,or a petty thief.!!!!

FFS you call some rshole who violates your personal private space; lives off the proceeds of taking all the things you work hard to accumulate & treasure after you've taken the time & effort of purchasing the exact item you've dreamt of owning for who knows how long; totally ignores the value of phone full of personal contact details that will take you literally hours & hours & hours of work to never get back to where it was; sells your totally unique modified bar set-up that you have worked on for countless hours changing & adapting to get it just right for $5 at cash converters & on & on & on I could go - as PETTY !~!!.
And PLEASE dont respond with anything to do with insurance - try it sometime - drop off your claim all the "Oh thats not covered stuff" then take days & days off work getting quotes & chasing receipts to find that the kite shop you bought your kite from cant (wont) give you a receipt 'for tax reasons' (there's obviously - certainly not mine - & Ill just add - they wont have too many tax problems from my spending in future yrs)
Jeez 'user' - just keep your ignorant 1/2 rsed advise to yourself.
How can you possibly 'not leave valuables in your car - DH - why not just advise everyone to stay home 24/7 or simply not have any.
SORRY you hit a big button - but please dont ever hand out crap like that unless you are safely home alone at your keyboard - you would not enjoy my response if I heard you sprouting off in Woodies carpark any given day.
PS came back to see if I shouldnt delete this emotional response only to re-assess it as over-all 'mild'.
And thanks 'squid' for beating me to be first to let 'user' know that his 'advice' is an ignorant, thoughtless, insensitive load of shyte.
And while Im at it (may as well go the whole hog) the camera reference too is totally unjustified, off the point, meaningless drivvle. If catching "petty" thieves was as revenue positive as speed cameras Im sure our locked parked cars would be a whole lot safer than they are now.

Thanx Puppet. That saved me a lot of typing. Having had my car broken into 4 times now and each time losing $100s -$1000s of personal gear I:E cameras, wallets, binos, fones, tools, kite gear (tho very little fortunately) and even a pair of friggin work boots for f*^)s sake' all of which were brought by me with hard earnt money, let alone the cost of replacing smashed windows/locks etc and the time off work it takes to do these things is bloody expensive. And when some poor little PETTY THIEF realises he can't sell your binos for $10 like he'd hoped to because your names engraved on them I guess he'd just toss them away. Well why not, they only cost me $300.
Gotta agree totally with Puppet on this one. User the loser! wait until it's happened to you a few times and see how you feel then!
And what the F has this topic got to do with 4WDs?

Get real Puppet head! You ****in babbling twat !!

Fact of life No 1: There are thieves out there, and they are EVERYWHERE !

Beach car parks, shopping centre car parks, streets, etc.

In Sydney they will rob you when you stop at a red light !!

Face it,the cops are not going to stop them .

Of course YOU are ****ing special ! "Oh yeah! I'm a kiteboarder!I should get special treatment !Especially when I park in that secluded place, when it's windy and no one else is at the beach "

I have had my car robbed, three or four times. I now take extra precautions. I have a special system set up that will stop all except the hardened pro.

So,puppet stringbrain, you and any other whiners are the losers. You can cry and cry,but it won't make a bit of difference after thousands of years of people taking what belongs to someone else.
As for losing hours and hours of time setting up your mobile phone,Hahahahahah !Is that all you can come up with ?**** me dead !The cops have got their hands full dealing with people that will take your LIFE !!

In this World of "haves" and "have nots" you had better learn to live with it ! News flash ! If you go ANYWHERE,do not leave valuables in your car ! If you do,just putting them in a bag,out of sight, gains nothing.

Its always happened, and its going to keep on happening. In fact, its going to get worse! $600 video phones,$2ooo kites,$1000 kiteboards.
Just asking for it,whether you like it or not.

And ,yes,I DO leave valuables in my car,but I take responsibility for the risk.
And believe me,the law DOES consider this petty theft.
While you are crying and whining to them about losing your yuppie phone, they are being called to a violent robbery by a junkie that has left the victim bleeding to death.Or a disaster scene where a speeding truck with no brakes has taken out 13 cars, killing one of the drivers!

As I said,GET REAL: you'r pathetic!

I spent all day assisting the cops in their investigation collecting evidence, etc.

From the evidence I have the guy who did the job is one heroin addict, con, currently on parole, by the name of Anthony (Tony) James Cayeux of no fixed address - probably binned my PDA/Mobile when I had the SIM and handset killed and the PDA is password protected.

The real thing that got me was that he bought another mobile on my credit card yesterday arvo @ Innaloo. The shop gave me the handset IMEA number but wouldn't kill it - neither would the cops put the new phone IMEA number in their pawn/stolen watch list because "it wasn't stolen"!!!! The offence he committed re new phone he bought on my stolen credit card is fraud not theft - as far as they are concerned the new phone is his.

I am yet to see if I am liable for his spending spree in the two hours prior to me notifying my bank. I am not insured :-( Luckily I had backed up data on the PDA that morning.

It kills me to know the name of the guy most likely responsible but not be able to do anything further.

To VB man.
I drive a 4WD myself.

4WD was just an example. Been in the news a bit after a little girl was run over and killed.( Now there's something to complain about! Two fammilies lives ruined. Who had to sort that tragedy out? Yep,the poor old useless police.Too bad they couldn't have been spending the day at the beach, looking out for half a dozen kitesurfers luxury possessions!

You may notice that I used the allegorical term "trucks" in my next post.Thats because of a news story again. An out of control truck with no brakes plows into peak hour traffic on the Gosford freeway, taking out 13 or some cars and killing one lady.Goes to court yesterday, evidence is that he"knew his brakes weren't crash hot"
Who had to sort that mess out?? Hey,you guessed it!! The lazy, good for nothing Police!

Hey User,

I think you are outa line here mate. Just accepting crime doesn't make it any better and never will . If people make enough noise the cops will get back to busting crims that deserve it. I too have been ripped off several times and Tina 3 times too. Both our cars and house have been done costing Tina and I plenty of money that we couldn't afford to lose. I feel for ya Ian, theft sux![}:)]

I feel for the cops, a thankless job where their hands are tied more often than not by do-gooders and bureaucrats, but they do patrol on weekends when the beaches are busy, but not during the week when it really is most important. The cops are not spending all their time attending violent crime scenes or accidents where there is fatalities, this happens from time to time and there are thousands of cops.

Everyday in Perth there are about 50 multanova cameras locations set up with a cop sitting in his car watching the camera for hours, this is not what cops should be doing. Put a technician or trained operator to run the cameras and free up 50 more cops that can patrol the parks, beaches, schools and shopping centres where loads of crimes happen everyday which slowly but inevitably drive our insurance premiums up higher and higher. We shouldn't all have to pay for this crap.

We should never become complacent about crime or just accept it as being too hard to stamp out. Increase the police powers, gag the civil libertarians and stiffen penalties for the criminals. Not much crime in Islamic country's, where they cut your hands off for stealing. Seems to fix the problem nicely!

Just my 2 cents worth, good winds!

Long as this abuse is coming from ppl with your slant 'user' im happy to take it.
When society accepts that the only rights we can justifiably expect from OUR system is an enforcement agency which can/will attempt to track down perpetrators of serious violent crime (after its happened obviously) then we will no longer have the right to claim the title of 'society' at all.
Im not knockin the cops - its not their fault - but we have to tell the upholders of 'society' what is required by its members.

Not trying to justify any crime or such.
Just being a realist.
Been around for a long time, this **** has always gone on and always will.
Its not good.
But everyone crying on a forum isn't going to help one bit! Well, maybe warn the naive about thieves at certain spots.
I'm just tired of the reponses like " I hope you find that ****er and rip his ****ing arms off!!"etc.etc.

I especially thought the letter to yhe Mayor reffering to "speed cameras and other nonsense" to be particularly stupid and immature.

Daz,I like your idea about the hand removal! Why don't these whiners take turns at hiding and watching for these thieves? Then they could mete out some old fashioned whoopass.Just like they all brag about doing.
No,they whinge to all amd sundry on the forums and cry about the police not doing anything!
Oh yes,and how dumb do you think these thieves are ??Hmmm??
NO ONE ever sees them (except for some japanese tourists thet can't speak English, and don't know who's car it is anyway.
The thieves are smart enough to avoid police and detection. In fact they think WE are the dumb ones for leaving valuables so easily to be taken.A quick twist of a pry bar,a hammer through the window.Sometimes,a door left unlocked.
As I said, its not going to get any better.
Anyway enough about them. Heres a few tips for you trusting types.Bless your little hearts!!
Ian,you should put your expensive and data laden PDA in the locked glovebox. Not in a camelback. It may help, because most of these lowlifes are smart enough to be in and out very quickly and get away smartly. Most of the instances I've seen involve grabbing what ever is easy to grab.Bags, pants(wallet still in pocket)
DON'T leave your keys on the wheel !(I see people do this all the time, good for them I'm not a thief!)
Its up to US to make it as hard as possible for these bludgers.

Puppethead,
You have not met me! Or maybe you have???
So you would not really know if you like me or not!
Judging by your redneck crap,I think you are full of **** !However were I to meet you,I might like you!I have learnt over the years to be tolerant. If I decided that I did not like everybody who had a different oppinion to me,I would be bitter and lonely. I am neither.

However, you are an intolerant redneck. Why?
Idiotic claim No1: Speed cameras are "revenue earners"(I speed but I'm special and I should not be booked. Its all those other speeders that maim and kill thousands every year!)

Idiotic reponse No2: "It's a good thing you are safely behind your keyboard, you wouldn't like my response if I heard you spouting off in the car park at Woodies"

Is this a threat of violence? To a fellow kiter that has a different opinion to you ?

OK, I think I just met a kiter that I don't like!

Oh ****!! Look at the time!
I'm off to the pub! (must remember not to leave my phone in the car in the pub car park!)
Data?? Backup,backup,backup!

User you must be a biatch (cop), every day you hear about and see cars trashed on the side of the freeway, how easy would it be for a bunch of fat arsed coppers to stop this type of crime??? The reason there are no resources to plant a car and catch these losers in action is because there is no REVENUE to be had from solving this type of crime.... Exactly the same applies for car break-ins, house break-ins and other scum-bag crimes!!! The dirt bags that perpetrate these type of crimes don't have F'N MONEY so the pollies are not even interested in them. A multi fine is so p%ss weak - you moron retard!! When you accept and sanction a 5% speed error when the ADR for speedo's states that a 10% error is OK you really have lost the plot. Do you honestly think that Multi-Novas have done anything other than alienate morons like YOU! The road toll is ever escalating because even if you drive like a complete ar%e as long as you don't speed - no one will ever know - you never see police on the road any more policing basic road rules and showing a presence - that is the problem!!!

Cop=biatch ?????? Fat arsed coppers???? Not very nice!I'll bet you are a "special" friend of puppetonastring??Yes ??

Heres an interesting post from the REAL kite forum, about deflating struts:

Always have to deflate 2 reasons:

1. The can been seen from outside of the car and they will break into your car to get your gear, so everything has to fit in te trunk of my car.

2. My car is standing sometimes outside in the full blistering sun and temp can go up really high in the car. Had 1 bladder explode once and that is not funny.

KR (end of quote)

I always thought that leaving my kite struts pumped up would discourage thieves, because then the kite is too bulky.

No seriously! I'm not tryin to upset you and ya friend, but anytime you justify a crime by saying 'the victim should have' you really are minimising the crime. I think most people are of the opinion that 'the dirt bag shouldn't have' and it's tragic when the likes of you and ya mate don't see that!
