Perth Brighton Rd. (Scarborough) 5pm Sunday - Hot sunny, light wind, slightly offshore conditions. Beach packed with families and miscellaneous beach goers with a major surf life saving event just North of the beach...

1. Black and Green 11m Yarga: wild, uncoordinated riding among swimmers, stumbling frequently and doing 2-3m hops (jumps?) landing right in front of bathers in the surf zone. Shame-walked with kite over the busy beach at head height, with some people having to duck to avoid the lines.

2.Blue and Black Crossbow: quite skilled in the waves but making 100% sure his 'radical'/stylish maneuvers would be *noticed* by doing it right amongst the swimmers and a small posse of his mates sitting on the crowded beach. Board flying high in mis-timed carves, it's sharp tip closely missing swimmers. Body boarders diving for cover.

3. Yellow and Black Cabhrina XXX: A bit like the bloke on the Yarga, but then, not being able to stay upwind decided it would be cool to just fly his kite & jump on the beach for a bit. Landed on a towel? Oops, sorry, hehe...

Plenty of room out wide but no all these heroes choose to ride and jump amongst bathing grannies and skimboarding kids. As these 3 guys were doing it unchallenged I noticed several others rigging up as I was leaving.

Is there anything that can be done about the show pony syndrome at Scarborough? Before someone gets hurt? Is calling a city ranger or a contacting a life guard advisable when one witnesses this kind of thing? Or, on a wider level, how about WAKSA putting up signs and perhaps dedicating an area for kiting, slightly south of the kiosk to protect the general public? This is not going to go away, given the growth of kiteboarding in WA.

Just finished a down winder about 5:45pm same kiters out, same **** going down.

One of the above mentioned bow riders managed to drop his kite amongst the swimmers near/in the flagged area.

The other one (whom is considered a fairly experienced kiter) was carrying on with the moves right amongst the swimmers.

Theres plenty of room on that beach, why not walk a few hundred metres up wind.

Extra leeway is needed on light days like that. It doesnt take much for a lkite to fall out of the sky especially when youre riding waves.

this sort of stuff really annoys me, if my kids at our local beach ever got a kite or even worse lines dropped on them by someone more worried about impressing the crowd rather than safety of other beach users, id let them know all about it.

Approach them on the beach guys, Dale should know better than that....

was this a younger guy?

11m black and green yarga @ peli on saturday nearly took out "old faithful" (the old half dead tree right at the launch spot that regularly eats kites) just by being far too close to shore followed by numerous dummy spits

Saw all of the above s**t going down. Not good.

If only the Blue and Black Crossbow could ride the waves propely, ie. down the line then he might have something to show off about!

Hi Guys,

Have to agree with Red Rocket. There is little point in writing it up on a forum apart from alerting others to these guys. The best action is to approach them on the beach or on the water.

If you are afraid of a negetive backlash from the perp, your correct, you'll probably get one, but if you show a little tact at least you'll get your message across. It'd make you feel marginally better after blanket bans are imposed on your fave break that at least you did the right thing and were not idly sitting by, shaking your head in disapproval, doing nothing and watching the action that causes the ban to be implemented.

We regularly approach people on our beach and let them know that dangerous actions are not appreciated at our spot. We don't seem to have too many problems and usually the ones that do arc up don't come back.

Good winds,

Do both - yes, approach them on the beach and on this forum.

On the subject, idiots at Trigg on Saturday with a blue and white kite that was too big for the wind.

Kite at 12, mate hanging on, which did not prevent being dragged up the dunes, finally quick releasing when about to get dragged into path fence. Kite then looked like ended up on dual use path/carpark.

YOU D1CKHEADS!!!!

(And no, did not approach them as observed all this on the water doing a downwinder)

Now, where's that dude from that show, I think it was 'The Wedge' the one with the scissors?!

That'd fix the problem!
