I broke both front lines on a kite recently and my other kites are of a similar age so it's a good idea to replace the lines on them as well.

Anybody know where I can buy a spool of spectra/dyneema suitable for making up lines? I intend to splice the lines so pre-stretched hollow core is what I am looking for. All I can see on ebay is 500lb fishing line.

If you know, tell me! I am looking to replace some lines as well.
Anyone selling Q-line by the reels in Australia?

I have emailed Q Power to see if I can get some of their line. I am a little suss on it. Q Power is meant to be this super duper line but it seems to have not gone further than the fringe enthusiasts.

Very fast response from the Q Power guy. He's just gone home for the night but got two quick emails and the promise of a quote tomorrow.

Carefull the are huge differences in quality, braidtech eu are used by ozone which are also used on para gliders, pirate lines are used by Lewis cratham when jumping big structures like Brighton and Worthing pier , quality not quantity is where I'd be looking

Apparently the kite lines are similar to ozone quality (apparently, best to check) so given that they should be very good.

So far for three sets of lines Q-Power (about $400) seems to be 2/3 the price of original Cabrinha lines (over $700) and Kite-Lines.com is 2/3 (about $250) the price of Q-Power.

There is only one review of the Kite-Lines product on kiteforum and the guy is very happy with them.

Kite-Lines only say that they use "Dyneema Sk75" which is the fiber used to make the lines. They don't say who makes the line. The spools in the picture look like the Braidtech ones.

I've had a couple of sets of Q powerline pros for 6-7 years now , the kites wear out before the lines, just need to make sure you retie the knots every 12-18 months cos thats were they will break . I get a heap of kiting in all year round and my lines have had a heap of use , and they are still as good as new. I was ( and still am )looking to make up some new race lines and the mob in the US i got the last lot through said they dont deal them anymore the manufacturer of distributer was too hard work. I have emailed a few other surf shops and they were pretty much telling me the same thing.
I did find one mob who still sold it and was willing to sent to Australia.

I've bought the Q-Power lines from kite-line.com (www.kite-line.com/kiteboarding-gear/accessories/kite-lines/q-power-600lb-500ft-spool). I think they're circa-2001 - the guy on the illustration on the spool is riding a pickle-fork. The are as stiff as hell, whistle when they fly and are a PITA to untangle the centre lines if you do all your tricks on one tack. That said, they're fantastic non-stretchy replacement lines that are showing no signs of wear after a year and a half. I replaced my North Kite lines with them because paying $290 for a replacement set seemed like a ripoff (North lines run different lengths so you can't just buy generic replacements). Mine actually came in orange which is really handy snowkiting. As for tying them off, just double over the lines before you make the larks-head knots at the ends.
