Does anyone who about the wind in Busselton with regards to its direction. I.e. does the seabreeze still blow SW which is off shore there or is the sea breeze turned due to the land shape ?
I am planning a downwinder for summer and I need to know if we can get around the Cape without encountering too much off shore wind.

Done it, and would'nt recommend it without boat from Cape Naturaliste to Capel. All offshore and tricky. Seabreeze normally comes in 2-3 hrs later than Yallingup side someday's never. Could be done but if something goes wrong you get blown out to sea really quickly!

THanks Birdseye - So we should get driven from the West side of the Cape to Capel and forget about the dangerous part. Or find someone with a boat !
To clarify - even in Dunsborough it is off shore ?

Dunsborough is directly offshore in seabreeze then about 5pm turns s-se (side-off).You could do it, but a boat is great insurance. I've sat out there 10k's out being blown further out and on dusk. Would'nt like to do it again.

Like some of the crew have said, the wind does tend to swing around, as I took my wife back to busselton to show her around. Yeah did the tourist thing of taking her out to the observatory, and the wind came in at a good 16knots. Rushed her back to the car only to find the wind dropped to bearly 10. Frustrated I waited while I sent her to check out the shopping, no Myer's in sight for her but that dam wind never picked up. So I made the safe bet of moving down to Margarets and well got my money's worth.
P.S just came back from Hamilton Island (QLD) another hoax of a place, gusting from 12-27knots in a second. 2 beaches where you have to hike for 2-5 kms with all of your gear. Wife again wasn't into hiking with my gear just hiking.
Hat's off to the guys who rounded the cape...that's balls.
