Have been offered a 04 Slingshot Fuel & am wondering if this would be a good first kite. My main concern at this stage is safety.

Get some lessons first and use their gear - either a mate who is good at teaching or a reputable kite school - that way once you are up and riding you will understand what is a good kite to buy and what is not. Don't rush into buying a kite before you have had a go first.

Definitely get at least a couple of lessons, or hook up with someone who already kites. Itll cost you a bit to get a lesson but your learning curve will a lot steeper, you'll be advised on the best setup for your weight etc., you won't be stuffing around with the basics and you won't be wondering if you've made the wrong decision.
