Today there was a CALM Officer down at Pelican saying there were birds currently nesting on Pelican Pt so stay out of the yellow marker area. Unfortunately at the time the seabreeze was only just coming in so there was only 2 of us there that heard the message..

You're supposed to stay out of the yellow marker area at all time!
Was there yesterday and I think at some point I saw almost 10 kites in the area.
Also saw at the same time birds lover who were freaking out looking at all those kites.

WAKSA has consulted with Dept of Environment & Conservation over a considerable period of time regarding about kiting at Pelican Point and we have substantially based our Pelican Pt guideline on their advice. (go here to view the Pelican Point guideline: www.seabreeze.com.au/Articles/Kitesurfing/Where-to-kitesurf-in-Western-Australia-official_4992834.aspx).

Whilst we appreciate that not all kiters are members or readers of Seabreeze, we would strongly encourage all kiters to comply with the requests from DEC to keep clear of the eastern tip of Pelican Point and to follow our best advice with respect to this particular location.

WAKSA does not need to or want to have to unnecessarily fight to maintain access at Pelican Point also - foresight, individual responsibility and self-regulation are necessary from all of us.

There is more to add on this issue.

On last Sunday, we all noticed an orange Cab 9m, on the eastern tip of Peli Pt teaching someone how to fly the kite.

I did approach and asked the guy (30yo), if he is WAKSA member. He is not and he didn't read/see the guideline displayed on a sign!

They were there for more than 3 hours, at least one hour after talking with him.

Also, 3 Brazilians were there, kiting all the time in the reserve. One finally wrapped his kite around a biggest palm tree.

Most of the ppl there yesterday were, sort of ok. As I could see, only 8-9yrs old (and we know who he is), was staying away all the time and getting better and better!

The question is: who will talk to the wrongdoers? No one want's to "fight windmills" all the time, me included.
