Update on the games, no heats run today because there was no wind.

Sunday 1pm at the beach for the start of the heats.
If you missed out getting down today then you are more than welcome to come down and compete. There is $1000 up for grabs for the biggest hangtime. Free to enter however you need to be a waksa member to compete. It is possible to sign up on the day

Cheers

Dale Stanton took out first prize ($1,000 for the longest hang time) winner taking all. I think that was a 12m Crossbow you were on wasn't it Dale? The wind was up and down like a yo-yo. I helped Dale launch and he was debating to the very last momoment whether to switch from his 12m to his 16m. Then the wind seemed to pick up, Carl Bevilacqua had just come in on his 14m and said he wouldn't need the 16, so Dale left the beach with his 12m. It was the final heat and he timed his third jump perfectly, catching a solid gust which sent him ripping into shore. He then flipped it up into the air. It was high, but didn't look any higher than the others earlier (Jake I believe held the lead at that time and Ryland was out on that final heat giving Dale plenty of competition). But when Dale started coming down he just seemed to stop and kept hanging there, and hanging... Good technique, good choice of gust and I guess a good Crossbow. I can't remember his exact hang time ... I think it was almost 8 seconds. <Someone better confirm that>.

Those big hangtimes sure seem much longer when your not clock watching. I wonder how long they seem when ur actually up there doing it
aaahhh (deep sigh) ... one of these days ? perhaps :-(
BTW - saw a certain anonymous kiter Send It Up then hang forever as he floated over the sandbar at pengos Sat.

Congratulations Dale , nice work .

Good work as well Gavin , Kitestock is the begining of a new era in WA .
This one is for everybody just to have a good time and a chance to meet a lot of people
The aim is to try and get a lot of people up there and to bring the family as well .

The date has specifically been chosen so that the winds will be around 15-20 knots so that it is pleasant for all .

regards to kitestock gav. we have a couple of kickers and would love to bring 1 up for the comp. wether or not people want to use it is up to them but by the sounds of the venue would be perfect for a kicker. we can tow it up. good work. is it going to be a mambo style event with enonymous voting.

Ryland,
I was under the impression the Kitestock isn't a comp as such, rather a big get together where everyone kites, has fun, shows what they can do, and all up have a good time. Hence no judges or judgeing criteria...? The idea being to get more people involved and not just the usual comp crew.
Maybe I've got the the wrong end of the stick?

i think gav was considering giving anonymous votes to a handful of people

maybe they could vote on a few categories:

biggest air
sickest trick
best stack
sexiest shorts
etc

semi competitive but without time limits or "arranged" heats gets my thumbs up... more time on the water for all

I think Jess has got the right idea.

KITESTOCK should be a full-on happening.
Not just another stock standard competition.

Bring it on.
Come March, slave and family will be trucking up in the love bus.

Peace and happiness .

Yep,
This one is for everyone. No formal judging criteria unless five of you get together and want to have a little shoot out in your own little section, which we can buoy off..

I'd like to see a few games of "donkey" taking place on the water. Jess has had a bit of an explanation on this one.

If you've ever played 1 on 1 basketball, it's the same thing. One kiter leads, the other follows. If the leading kiter throws a kiteloop and lands it; the following kiter must copy. If he doesn't land it, he gets a "d" and continues to follow, matching the leading rider, trick for trick until.......

The leading rider doesn't land his chosen trick. Then they swap places, following kiter becomes leading kiter and calls the shots. Until he/she stuffs a landing and they then swap places.

game is over when someone is a "donkey"

It's Mambo style, yes. A kicker would be fun and you can bring it along Ryland, although this time, make sure it's construction is assured. ;)

This ones for the everyone. Come to the best flat water spot around, protected by an outside reef with only a couple hundred meters from reef to beach, so if you drop your kite you can easily swim in or wait until you end up back on the beach.

It's the safest place for kiting I have ever come across anywhere in WA, and I've kited a few spots.

Cindy Mosey loved it and has been up for a training session there as has Aaron Hadlow, it's where I spend my birthday each year and Christmas lunch last year. It has surprised me with freak wind when no-where else is blowing and I've even kited out there with a Dugong. It's beautiful and I love it. I'm certain it won't dissapoint.

Check the WAKSA website over the next few weeks for updates. will also put the Aaron Hadlow footage on there from Pt Gregory. Some seriously cool kiting.

Gav also mentioned different divisions of 'donkey' so everyone can take part.e.g.

Division A: upwind, toeside, jumps, back rolls, forward rolls.
Division B: doubles, jumps with grabs, one-foot moves etc., raleys.
Division C: well we'd have to start discussing it from here really...

Get the idea? Not bad, I think it would be fun to watch as well.

What about a game of "Kite Brandy"

I have found a tennis ball on the beach from time to time and have had untold amounts of fun pegging an unsuspecting kiter (or swimmer)[}:)][}:)]

Slow down...slow down...I'm trying to write this all up.
Brandy, now that...is cool. I have a bucket here of 100 tennisballs. Maybe a game of "collect em up" whoever gets the most tennis balls wins.

Or an old fave..."rob the nest" I'm sure you all remember that one.

(laughing) This is going to be a hoot.

the downwind body drag race is a must that would be one of the funniest things you could see

could you imagine 20-30 kiters in a line racing belly style over 300 mtrs?? maybe a little dangerous but on the other hand you could easily do time trials
