In Cairns kite at Yorkeys Knob beach or at the southern end of Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas. When the trade winds come through they can be anywhere between 15 to 30 knots, however, you wouldn't know about it this year.

I had a week in Cairns last year at the tail end of the season.

Good friendly crew i thought.

However Yorkys Knob is not the greatest place to kite IMHO. Brown water and neither waves or flat, just chop.
Still better than nothing if you have no choice.

Oh and the crew from its extreme in Cairns, Bruce i think is the main bloke were phenominally helpful to me when i visited, worth popping in to suss out the local area

Capt. Gumby!
Thanks for your local info mate. How has the wind been lately? Like how often does it blow a week? Is port douglas a more consistent spot?

Just Graduated from Uni and thinking of going up to cairns next week for 2-3 weeks to get good at kiteboarding!!

Had a good day yesterday 15 to 20 knots even though it was SSE and not a cloud in the sky, just like old times. Today is blowing 20 to 25 knots already, cloudless and now SE. Forecast is 20 to 30 knots for the rest of the week so it should be great. July and August are generally our best months.

Regarding Yorkies and Port, this time of year you cannot go wrong. I would recommend trying both spots. The Yorkies sand bars are no good this year due to the dredge stealing all the sand for the beach to the south. Say g'day when you head up as there are plans for a few reef trips during August with a few of the locals and you can come along if you wish (more the merrier.

Cheers
