All seabreeze users please take the time to do this, click on the link and send them a message, they may start to take notice.

we need to start bombarding the freo/mosman councils with letters to try get them to do something about it.

click here to get to the feedback form

These two shire feedback web sites are really only relevent to the leighton/North Freo area

From my experiance the Leighton stretch, woodies and Pinaroo are the worst and most hit

I have only been broken into here (3x mind you and I dont kite here often)and the mosmon and freo shires meet somewhere along this stretch.

Woodies area would probably be Shire of Cockburn or something?

Pinaroo - City of Waneroo?? dont know

Pinnaroo comes under the Joondalup City Council www.joondalup.wa.gov.au

I've been broken into twice down there now; I'm very fortunate to live not too far away so am able to walk down.

The whole thing stinks though, hope a bit noise at the councils can get something done.

Regards Woodies: I've been talking with the crew from Cockburn cement regards getting a wind meter at the top of the factory there.

Great bunch of blokes, and really supportive of getting a wind meter installed. They took me on a tour of the factory, and got to have a look on the roof for an installation point. They have 6 (six!) awesome manually controlled cameras at the factory, of which two can pan to the carparks (even the one at the west most point). Unfortunately at that zoom level, you can't make out much.

Thought about putting our own camera in there, but couldn't see much point in showing the north ocean, as it's always flat behind the spit anyway, and too far from the carpark to make out number plates/crime...I reckon you'd need a pretty powerful (=expensive) camera to get any footage worthwhile...

If you have any ideas...

Enjoy .. Laurie

why not advertise the fact there is a camera up there watching and focus it on the intersection in the road where all cars must pass by the carpark out front of the cement place or continue up to the carparks we use... See if the camera can focus on cars/number plates/people, if it can see if the camera is recorded, if it is then maybe it could be of some use...

Thats the go RayQ.
I am seriously looking at importing a trip wire device you can fit to your console lid or ashtray > linked to a blank shotgun shell &/or a pepper spray (& can also activate your alarm).
At about $125AUD I reckon it would be well worth it.
More about it soon I hope.
My last breakin (of 3 in 2 years) cost me $2500 PLUS insurance covered repairs to about the same amount and i was without a vehicle for 2 days.
We have seriously got to stop these scum of the earth F'Kers or someone is going to end up in serious **** for loosing it when 1 of them does get caught.

Carl,

Here's the reply I got from the CoF

Thank you for your email regarding crime prevention at Leighton Beach. Your comments have been forwarded to our Manager Urban Environment who will be discussing this matter with the Officer in Charge of Fremantle, Inspector, Gary Budge.

Once again thank you for providing us with your comments.

Sorry to be the party pooper but going on past experience with councils, they'll do a lot of shuffling of papers and tsk... tsking but in the end not much will happen. Probably best that they'll do is put up a sign warning of the problem.

I reck'n it is up to us to do something. Get some video of the f'ers and give it to the cops. Also we all gotta look out for each other and post descriptions and rego no's to be on the look out for.

Thanks Airhead I agree there will probably be more noise than action

but If we are relentless in sending these mails we may get some kind of result - worth a try IMO

Next step - anyone know any media people if we can get the attention of a news group we could drop the shire's names on air and that may prompt them into more action.

Kite surfers are not the only ones being broke into and I feel there would be big public support for councils to try control or resolve this

if everyone writes an email a week they're going to sit up and take notice if for no other reason than to get us to stop writing :)

emails will work if there is a continuous stream for a prolonged period... like we all say, it's always the vocal minority who get noticed!

good work bevo ;)

If you really want to hit them with volume email then make it easy for people - maybe a some words that people can simply cut&paste and a bunch of email addresses?

Maybe WAKSA can also send something out to all it's members?

Here's a start:

I am writing to express my concern at the large number of vehicles being regularly broken into at Leighton Beach/ Woodman's Point/ Scarborough/ Cottesloe/ Pinaroo (insert or delete all except the one applicable).

Please address this problem by:

  • increase your security patrols in this area

  • increase WA Police Service patrols

  • install surveillance cameras

  • put up signs that detail the security measures being implemented

  • any other measures that might deter and/or catch the thieves and vandals

Yours sincerely,

Include your name and postal address to be more effective to lobby politicians.

I would be happy to keep a database of all the breakins

if people want to send me an incident report eg time, place and break-in details, I will colate it and we could maybe use it as some kind of leverage

OK crew I have set up a mail account

This is for real, mail your incidents to - [email protected]

Hi!

It appears that hassling everybody with emails kind of works!!! Here s a response that I received today (hm... today I guess he works on Sundays) from Francis Logan MLA (Member for Cockburn). I would not be surprised if this email is a copy/paste of the email he sent to the previous kitesurfer who hassled him... Anyway, the piece of news is worth to share...

***
Thanks for the e-mail. I am aware of the criminal behaviour every summer at Coogee and Woodman Point beaches. As a fledgling kite surfer, the regular kiters have all had their cars broken into on a number of occasions.
The good news is that police patrols on bicycles and horses have started specifically targeting these beaches and the Park as from the 10th December. The other assistance you should remember is the City of Cockburn Community Security Patrols available on 1300 653 643. This service is on call 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Surveillance cameras are also being considered for Coogee beach and Woodman Point.'
***

That s a start.
Let s continue to make some noise!

Cheers,

Fred

May I suggest to put up a sign showing the above message at the Woodies carpark to :
1- show the vandals that they are targetted
2- put the phone number in plain view if required (although personnally I do not bring my phone so that I do not have it stolen!?!)

That s just a cheap passive legal action... in case

Well, I will add this suggestion to the list of options I give to the persons I am hassling...unless someone would like to try their hand to a bit of carpentry?!?

Fred

I did notice a the cement factory or whatever it is , there is a large enclosed , secure car park with cameras allready installed.... do you think there would be much point asking the dudes there if we could pay to use theirs ie behind the sandstone walls. i think that will completely stop the break ins

ok, ok I kind of like filling this topic...

Today the City of Melville and Cockburn security patrol car was at Woodies (at least around 2pm). The first day job for the bored security guard inside - If you pass by, stop, say hello and thank the guy for being there! He will surely appreciate it and possibly pass the message to his hierarchy.

A good example for the adjacent suburbs!
