Even better question. Can you kite in the rain TODAY in Sydney.

Anyone out near the water know what it's like?

You can & its ace fun. When I was up in Port Douglas in June it was the only way to kite - i.e. kite the fronts & the rain as after that passed and the sun came out the wind died to zip.

Depends on where you are and what the conditions are as to whether it is safe or not...generally rain = squally winds in melbourne...and I hate packing up a wet kite, so I dont kite the rain here.

yes, it's awesome fun and I always kite in the rain - the water is flatter, and there are less kooks out to get in the way. Come to think of it less swimmers, windsurfers and boats too. Parking is usually a dream.

On the downside soaked kites dont fly well in light wind, and there are less chicks on the beach to impress with your latest and greatest cool moves

I've had some of my best seshs. kiting in the rain... With parking a breeze, wind very consistant, barely anyone else on the water, and you have it all to your self... Heaps of fun, and very safe (unless there's a severe storm on the way)... Only downside is packing away a wet kite , but even better to take it out the next day and dry it off
