I'm from the Central Coast. I kite on Lake Macquarie, the waterways of the Central Coast, and Nelson Bay. Cheers!

Hangtime.

What's a kite brand got to do with it ?

I've kited with the guys from Monkey kite as well as riders of monkey kites.

They're a great bunch. As to locals, there's bad and there's good everywhere. It's just the nature of some locals.

Live with it! If you actually said hi and spoke to some you might earn some respect and make some friends. Have that attitude and you will ever only kite in your own back yard.

Newcastle Justin is also a nice guy too. He rides cabs

Peace

Thanks Hurrah,

There is one good way to look at it - if this gives the Central Coast a bad name, all the more space on the water for me! In all honesty though, I love kiting on the Central Coast and surrounds. A massive variety of lakes and beaches, flat water and waves. And there is a spot for literally every wind direction.

Cheers
Justin

Central Coast is awseome, I don't know any locals but surfed up there heaps and only ever got into an argument with an old grey long boarder at North Shelley...in my younger days.

Don't knock the CC man - its cool ok!

Haven't done it yet but Towoon would be sick in a good swell and 18-22kt SSE

What areas are flat that are good for a noob to learn in? I have been to Canton Beach but it is very weedy and a bit funky smelling. Any other options similar maybe less funky and closer to Gosford way?

yeh man canton is disgusting how chat is that sewerage sess pool thats right on the beach. mann i hate that place!!. There is a spot called picnic point near The Entrance but it is just as bad as canton for pollution and it gets very crowded. It works in SW W NW but be aware of other riders because it gets busy there.

Hey Uminaboy, Thanks for confirming the Canton Funk factor! Are there any other flats in CC that are better? Or is it all waves? I like CC its less crowded. But takes 2 hrs to get to if you go to Canton from Sydney. Looking for something closer to Gosford if possible. Thanks for your help!

hangtime i didnt mention umina b4 but who cares if more people come there is heaps of room and the more kiters the better i reckon i hate being the only one out and besides the more people the more chance of someone giving me a lift to the station. okay uber you come of at the gosford exit and go down kariong hill until you get to westgosford than you turn right and follow the signs to woy woy and than the signs to umina beach we kite at the eastern end next to the channel. it is generally pretty flat there because there are sandbars that break up the surf and form lagoons. just be careful of the channel dont go near there and dont go anywhere near the flags

I'd go too this w/end but i goto go to a wedding interstate . I went to Canton Swamp last w/end and it took almost 2hrs. I hope Umina is at least half an hour closer to Syd.

For me Narra and longy is about 45 mins. But being a noob the waves bash me so i prefer flat too. Canton swamp is good for westerly's. Wear booties tho heaps of weird stuff on the bottom and heaps of weeds.

Let me know how it takes you to get there from Sydney. Enjoy!!!

Peter, from the Northern Beaches you can catch a ferry across - it is quick trip too. Saves having to do the long trip all the way around.

I have been there several times myself but never kited there due to lack of good conditions. But I am going to hit it up this weekend - maybe Friday afternoon and/or Saturday afternoon. Might see you guys there.

Uber

Nothing is good in a westerly. The best you'll get though is Picnic point. Not quiet as dangerous as Canton.

I've heard that Canton is OK if you wade out a fair way before you launch. It's probably not to bad in cross shore either. But in a westerly, nearly within 1 line length of the waters edge you can take your pick of trees, kids' play equipment, road, powerlines or buildings - something for everyone.

To drive to belmont south (newcastle) in a westerly takes exactly 1 hour from when you hit the freeway at Wahroonga. If you are going to drive for that long, then the extra few minutes to this place makes it worth it in the next few months (hopefully the westerly season rocks this year). Super flat water, and the most consistent wind in westerlies (still gusty, but better than most other places).

Both canton and picnic point are crap but in a westerly picnic point is pretty much dead onshore with not much to hit until some trees downwind maybe 100m.
Canton is crosshore in a westerly so if you launch with your kite near the waters edge and you up on the grass if anything goes wrong you will just get pulled into the water/sewrage (just dont cross your lines double check them)
