Hi,

We are trying to change the lines on our Crossbow we have been supplied 24m lines however when we put them on the outside lines are too long eg tough the ground when inside lines are fully extended.

When we measured the old lines the inside lines wer 8cm longer - what can we do? Can we get the shorter outside lines?

Thanks

where the outside lines come down from you kite and run thru the pulleys then up to the 'ring' where your front lines attach. At this point (ring) shorten your back lines by 'x'cm and re-tie them.

Its quite simple to match up the lines, all you need is some more flying line or something similar.
Make up pigtails or extensions for the lines that are short, to lengthen them so they match the longer lines, add the pigtails at the kite end.

PS - Most likely your old lines had stretched, the centre lines take all the load and can stretch that much over a years use or so.

The problem is that when all the lines are same length the outside lines appear to be too long. If w attach the kite end all at the same point (about hip high) and pull back on the bar so the inside lines are pulled tight the outside lines are hitting the ground.

With our old lines all lines would tesnsion when the bar was fully sheeted.

Not sure if we should be making the outside lines shorter or if this is normal?

Also when we measured the lines the old and new inside lines were within an inch of each other.

The old back lines were 8 cm shorter than the new ones - I don't think they shrink with use???

Hi Snowman

If you liked the way your kite flew on the old lines just do what I say and it will be all good.
I can't explain why the new lineset is like that, but I have seen uneven lines in linesets before, at least you don't have just one longer line or all different lengths!

Don't lose any more sleep over this, just make some pigtails, and make your new lines exactly the same realtive lengths as your old ones, connect to kite and go kiting (if you can find some wind!)

If you don't have any spare line, I will send you some to make the pigtails, contact me at sydney(at)kitepower.com.au with a postal address and I will send you some.
